GIS students struck gold in
Vietnam – coming back with
dozens of winners’ medals from
the Primary FOBISIA Games.
A total of 19 students and 3 staff
left GIS on May 29 to travel to Ho
Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in
anticipation of winning medals at the
Primary Games. We were not disappointed; the students won a total of 75 medals.
The first day was very busy with track and field in the morning, followed by the swimming
competition in the afternoon. A total haul of 71 medals from the day was very satisfying. The
students’ performance overall was excellent, given the very hot conditions.
T-ball for the second day was on the agenda. The Year 6 team started off slowly and
unfortunately lost the first game, but bounced back to win their next two game s in GIS style.
The Year 5 team again started off slowly, but won their next two games. Unfortunately the
weather turned for the worse and a thunder storm stopped play for the day, just as we were
about to start the playoff games.
Football was the order of the
final day and with GIS fielding
four teams; they were raring
to go out and battle for the
medals. The teams played very
well, again in very hot
conditions.
The Year 5 girls finished
runners up in the competition
to win the silver medal.
Well done to all students on
their excellent performance
throughout the games. They
are a credit to our school.

his help in preparing the students
for the competition. Also thanks to Ms Gordon for her help during the trip. Lastly, a big thanks
to Mr and Mrs Steele for their gracious help in securing the swimming team costumes.
