3.09 CLEANUP<br />

All excess soil, soil preparation materials, fertilizer, or plant containers shall be removed form the<br />

site upon completion <strong>of</strong> the work.<br />

3.10 PRUNING AND SPRAYING<br />

Each tree will be pruned to preserve the natural shape and character <strong>of</strong> the plant. All pruning will<br />

be done after delivery to the site, under supervision <strong>of</strong> the Owner. All s<strong>of</strong>t wood or sucker growth<br />

and all broken or badly bruised branches shall be removed. All pruning diameter will be painted<br />

with tree surgery paint, applied on all cambium and other living tissues immediately after cuts are<br />

made. Immediately after planting and staking, all plant material except coniferous evergreens<br />

must be sprayed with an antidesiccant, if required, using an approved power sprayer for applying<br />

an adequate film over trunks, branches, and foliage. Antidesiccants and surgery paint shall be<br />

delivered in manufacturer’s sealed containers and used in accordance with their<br />

recommendations.<br />

3.11 MAINTENANCE<br />

The Landscape Contractor is responsible for watering, cultivating, and other necessary<br />

maintenance (including regular mowing) until the completion and acceptance <strong>of</strong> the project.<br />

3.12 INSPECTION FOR ACCEPTANCE<br />

A. Inspections: Inspection <strong>of</strong> work and planting to determine completion <strong>of</strong> the work, exclusive<br />

<strong>of</strong> possible warranty plant replacement, will be made by the Owner upon notice by the<br />

Landscape Contractor. The Owner needs not less than two (2) days notice prior to the<br />

anticipated date, enabling him to schedule the inspection.<br />

B. Acceptance: Acceptance <strong>of</strong> all work and planting, exclusive <strong>of</strong> possible plant replacements<br />

subject to guarantee, will be granted to the Landscape Contractor, provided there are no<br />

deficiencies at inspection time. After inspection, the Landscape Contractor will be notified by<br />

a letter <strong>of</strong> acceptance <strong>of</strong> work by the Owner. All plants must be healthy (not dry or wilted) to<br />

be accepted.<br />

3.13 GUARANTEE<br />

A. Terms: All shrubs and groundcover shall be guaranteed for a minimum <strong>of</strong> one (1) year and all<br />

trees for one (1) year or in accordance with the Contract Documents, whichever is greater.<br />

Guarantee begins upon Final Acceptance <strong>of</strong> project by <strong>City</strong>.<br />

B. Plant Replacement: At the end <strong>of</strong> each guarantee period, inspection will be made by the<br />

Owner and the Landscape Contractor. Any plant material required under this contract that is<br />

dead or not in satisfactory growth condition shall be removed and replaced with the same size<br />

and kind <strong>of</strong> plant specified, at no cost to the Owner.<br />

3.14 MAINTENANCE GUIDE<br />

The Landscape Contractor, upon delivery <strong>of</strong> the plant materials, shall deliver to the Owner a<br />

brief, written maintenance guide. This guide should describe recommended planting maintenance<br />

procedures, methods, products, quantities, timing, etc.<br />
