DIRECTORS
04 Mr Alan Chan Heng Loon
Mr Alan Chan Heng Loon was first appointed Group
President of SPH Ltd on 1 July 2002, before he was
appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2003. Mr Chan is
responsible for managing the group’s portfolio of
business which includes print, broadcasting, internet,
outdoor advertising, telephony and properties.
Mr Chan is currently on the boards of Singapore Press
Holdings Ltd and its subsidiaries, Singapore Power
Pte Ltd and its subsidiaries, MediaCorp TV Pte Ltd,
MediaCorp Press Pte Ltd and OpenNet Pte Ltd. He is
also the Chairman of the Urban Redevelopment Authority
and the Corporate Governance Council, a member of
the Public Service Commission (PSC) and a director of
Business China.
Before joining SPH, Mr Chan was an Administrative
Officer in the Civil Service. He has worked in the
Government for 25 years and some of his previous
appointments included Permanent Secretary of the
Ministry of Transport, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Principal Private Secretary to then
Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew and Director of Manpower,
Ministry of Defence.
Mr Chan holds a Diplome d’Ingenieur from the Ecole
Nationale de l’Aviation Civile, France and MBA (with
Distinction) from INSEAD, France. He is a President’s
Scholar and was conferred the Public Administration Medal
(Gold and Silver) for his contributions to the public service.
In 2009, Mr Chan was selected by INSEAD as “one of 50
Alumni who changed the world”.
05 Mr Willie Cheng Jue Hiang
Mr Cheng was appointed a director of SPH on 1 March
2004. He is also a director of United Overseas Bank Ltd,
NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd, and Singapore Health
Services Pte Ltd. He serves on the boards and councils
of several civic and charitable organisations. He is the
Chairman of Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives,
Singapore and a director of the Singapore Institute of
Directors, Lien Center for Social Innovation, Council for
Third Age, Asia Philanthropic Ventures, NTUC Fairprice
Foundation Ltd and SymAsia Foundation Ltd.
Mr Cheng holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (First Class
Honours) from the University of Singapore. He is a
fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of
Singapore, the Singapore Institute of Directors and the
Singapore Computer Society.
06 Ms Chong Siak Ching
Ms Chong was appointed as a director of SPH on 22
October 2010. She is the President and Chief Executive
Officer of Ascendas Pte. Ltd. and also sits on the Boards
of Ascendas Pte Ltd and its subsidiaries. Ascendas
specializes in developing, managing and marketing IT,
science, business, industrial & logistics parks, hi-tech
facilities, office and retail space with a presence in 10
countries across Asia including Singapore, China, India
and Korea. Ms Chong was recognised as the ‘Outstanding
CEO of the Year’ in the Singapore Business Awards 2009
for her steadfast leadership and dynamism in establishing
Ascendas as Asia’s leading provider of business space
across Asia.
Ms Chong holds several external appointments which
include Deputy Chairman of Singapore Standards,
Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING), Chairman of IE
Singapore’s Network India Steering Committee, a director
of Jurong Health Services Pte. Ltd., council member of the
Singapore Business Federation and member of the Board
of Trustees of the National University of Singapore.
Prior to this, Ms Chong was Deputy Chief Executive Officer
of JTC Corporation from 2000 to 2001. From 2004 to 2009,
Ms Chong was a member of the APEC Business Advisory
Council (“ABAC”). In addition to her normal ABAC duties,
she was appointed as Chair of the APEC CEO Summit
2009 which was held in Singapore. Ms Chong has also
served as a Board member of the Singapore Tourism Board
from 2005 to 2009.
