Exploitips: This reportedly sumptuous antmated
film has a tortuous financial history (not
unlike Don Bluth's recent films), having run
out of money well before final touches could
be made. Whether writer/director Williams
vision will have been compromised remains
to be seen, but those who've seen excerpts
mark this feature as potentially one ofthe most
visually beautiful animated features ever
made. With "Pocahontas" still in wide release,
however, will kids really be ready for a
non-Disney ride on "A laddin 's " magic carpet^
Hellraiser iV
This Dimension release returns Pinhead to
the first
the silver screen in a story that expands the
original mythology of producer Clive Barker
("Lord of Illusions") to bring together the beginning,
middle and end of the Hellraiser from
appearance of the Lament Configuration
to the last. "Hellraiser" series constant
Doug Bradley, Bruce Ramsay ("Alive") and
Valentina Vargas ("The Name of the Rose") star
for director Kevin Yagher (makeup effects man
on "Man's Best Friend"); as with parts two and
three, Peter Atkins scripts. (Miramax, 8/1 1)
Ex[l\o'lt\[IS'. One of the few summer features
directed at the mostly teen, mostly male
Fangoria crowd, at whom your pitch should
be directed. The availability of "Hellraiser"
masks and costumes makes costumed street
and/or lobby brouhaha a natural. The law of
diminishing returns could be at work against
"Hellraiser IV, " but a decent weekend or two
is all but assured by the franchise's many fans.
Cold Blooded
A black comedy about a betting operation
phoneman ("Calendar Girl's" Jason Priestley)
who proves adept when he's promoted to
hitman by his Mob boss ("I Love Trouble's"
Robert Loggia) and taught by a pro ("Passed
Away's" Peter Riegert). Matters become complicated
when a sweet-natured aerobics instructor
("Father of the Bride's" Kimberly
Williams) comes on-scene. Newcomer Wally
Wolodarsky directs and scripts; Michael J. Fox
(who makes a cameo) is one of five producers.

Exploitips: TV's "90210" cast is still looking
for a film breakthrough (though Luke Perry's
"8 Seconds" came close). With this film's bizarre
plot and the hard-sell usually needed to
nudge black comedy into the winner's circle,
it's doubtful they'll find it here.
A Fine Specimen
In this comedy, a successful businesswoman
("King of the Hill's" Lisa Eichorn) who
is impregnated at a sperm bank tracks down
and then falls in love with the father, a photographer
("Undercover Blues'" Stanley Tucci)
who has no idea she's carrying his child. Vern
Oakley directs and produces. (Tara)
Exploitips: Tara Is hoping for romanticcomedy
sleeperdom with this one, which recalls
"Made in America." If titles like "While
You Were Sleeping" do well with your audiences,
you may want to give this one a try.
Broken Harvest
Colin Lane, Niall O'Brien ("King Ralph")
and Marian Quinn star in this story of an Irish
family that returns from America in the 1950s
and struggle to make a go of it in their native
land. Maurice O'Callaghan directs and coscripts;
Jerry O'Callaghan produces. See our

Exploitips: Careful marketing to the audiences
who went for "Circle of Friends, " with
a special emphasis in urban Irish enclaves.
Pigalle
Debut director Karim Dridi cruises the dark
side of the City of Light's nightlife in the
red-light section of Paris. (Seventh Art)
Exploitips: Adult and midnight-movie possibilities
might be found here.
Jeffrey
Adapted by Paul Rudnick ("Sister Act") from
his off-Broadway version, this romantic comedy
follows an AIDS-cautious celibate gay man
("The Temp's" Steven Weber) who meets Mr.
Right. The cast includes Patrick Stewart, Robert
Klein, Olympia Dukakis, Kathy Najimy and
Sigourney Weaver. (Orion Classics)
Exploitips: Cinemas with a good track record
with gay titles should snap up this morethan-usually
star-driven effort. Depending on
local sensitivities, tie-ins and free screenings
with AIDS groups could show good citizenship
and be inexpensive promotion.
