DAY OF THE LORD
light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the
light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour
into it. (Rev 21:10-11, 22-24)
Another very important aspect of the heavenly Jerusalem, is that, there
we will be able to see God face to face:
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light
of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for
ever and ever. (Rev 22:4-5)
St. John lets us in on a secret, we will be able to see God because we will
be like Him: “when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall
see him as he is.” (I John 3:2) Not only will we be able to see God, but
we will be able to see Him as He is. That means we will be able to
know Him perfectly. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then
face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am
known.” (I Cor 13:12) Because we will see God face to face, we will be
able to know him perfectly, even as much as he knows us! Because we
will be like Him, we will be able to see Him as He is, in His Divinity!
It is this vision of God and knowledge of God that is the most
wonderful aspect of the heavenly Jerusalem.
There are certain difficult passages about this new world that are
“hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable
wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.”
(II Pet 3:16) We would like to discuss these passages and see how the
“unlearned and unstable” use them to teach “diverse and strange
doctrines”: (Heb 13:9)
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down
with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed;
their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like
the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the
weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not
hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of
the knowledge of the Lord. (Isa 11:6-9)
