The supervisor of an employee who has established a questionable pattern of absences shall<br />
have a discussion with the employee regarding the reason for such absences and may ask<br />
the employee to provide verification or appropriate documentation. [Medical Certification]<br />
The employee may be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including<br />
termination, in accordance with District policies and applicable law.<br />
Job Abandonment<br />
An employee who is absent from work for three or more consecutive workdays without<br />
notifying his or her supervisor shall be deemed to have voluntarily resigned from the<br />
District and may be separated from employment with the District due to job abandonment<br />
in accordance with District policies and applicable law.<br />

Jury Duty<br />
An employee will receive leave with pay and without loss of accumulated leave with a<br />
summons to appear as a juror. The employee may retain any compensation received from<br />
court for jury duty and must present to the district written documentation of the service.<br />
Documentation of jury duty that has been served must be sent to the payroll department<br />
prior the cutoff date of the current pay period.<br />
Other Court Appearances<br />
<strong>Employee</strong>s will be granted paid leave to comply with a valid subpoena to appear in a civil,<br />
criminal, legislative, or administrative proceeding. Absences for court appearances related<br />
to an employee’s personal business must be taken as personal leave or leave without pay (if<br />
no personal leave is available). <strong>Employee</strong>s may be required to submit documentation of<br />
their need for leave for court appearances.<br />
Reimbursement for Unused Leave upon Retirement<br />
An employee, who concurrently retires from active service under the criteria established by<br />
the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), may be eligible to be reimbursed for any<br />
accumulated state and local leave days. This benefit is available only to those employees<br />
who have worked in the district for 5 consecutive TRS credible years of service or more.<br />

At the employees’ advance written request (90 days for contract employees and two weeks<br />
for non-contract employees), an eligible employee shall be reimbursed for each day of state<br />
and local leave at the daily rate of a substitute for the employee’s position. This benefit<br />
shall be calculated upon retirement for each employee who submits a Notice of Final<br />
Deposit before Retirement (form TRS 7) certifying that he or she is retiring under TRS. If<br />
