the employee is reemployed with the District, days for which the employee received<br />
payment shall not be available to that employee.<br />
The rate established by the Board shall be in effect until the Board adopts a new rate. Any<br />
changes to the rate shall apply beginning with the school year following the adoption of the<br />
rate change.<br />
This retirement benefit shall not be available to an employee under investigation, or whose<br />
employment is terminated by the District, or who resigns or retires in lieu of termination or<br />
non-renewal, unless otherwise approved by the Board.<br />
Military Leave<br />
Paid leave for military service<br />
Any employee who is a member of the Texas National Guard, Texas State Guard, or<br />
reserve component of the United States Armed Forces will be granted a paid leave of<br />
absence without loss of any accumulated leave for authorized training or duty orders. Paid<br />
military leave will not exceed 15 days each federal fiscal year (October 1–September 30).<br />
In addition, an employee is entitled to use available state and local personal or sick leave<br />
during a time of active military service.<br />
Re-employment after state military leave<br />
<strong>Employee</strong>s who leave the district to enter into active duty with the Texas National Guard or<br />
Texas State Guard may return to employment if they are honorably discharged or released<br />
within five years. <strong>Employee</strong>s who wish to return to the district will be re-employed in the<br />
same position they previously held or reassigned to a position of similar seniority, status,<br />
and pay, provided they are still qualified to perform the required duties of the position.<br />
Application for reemployment and evidence of honorable discharge or release must be<br />
submitted to the Office of Human Resources within 90 days of discharge or separation.<br />
Re-employment after federal military leave<br />
<strong>Employee</strong>s who leave the district to enter into the United States uniformed services may<br />
return to employment if they are honorably discharged. <strong>Employee</strong>s who wish to return to<br />
the district will be reemployed in the position they would have held if employment had not<br />
been interrupted or reassigned to an equivalent or similar position provided they are still<br />
qualified to perform the required duties. To be eligible for reemployment, employees must<br />
provide notice of their obligation or intent to perform military service, provide evidence of<br />
honorable discharge or release, and submit an application for re-employment to <strong>Southwest</strong><br />
Independent School District.<br />
Continuation of Health Insurance<br />
<strong>Employee</strong>s who perform service in the uniformed services may elect to continue their<br />
health plan coverage at their own cost for a period not to exceed 24 months. <strong>Employee</strong>s<br />
should contact the Benefits Department for details on eligibility, requirements, and<br />
limitations.<br />
