support and supervisio of parents, teachers andsupport staff. The use of these technology
resources is a privilege, not a right. Limited personal use is permitted if the use:
• Imposes no tangible cost to the district
• Does not unduly burden the district’s computer or network resources
• Has no adverse effect on job performance or on a student’s academic performance
Electronic mail transmissions and other use of the technology resources are not confidential
and can be monitored at any time to ensure appropriate use.
With access to computers and people all over the world comes the potential availability of
material that may not be considered to be of educational value in the context of the school
setting. Southwest ISD firmly believes that the value of information, interaction, and
research capabilities available outweighs the possibility that users may obtain material that
is not consistent with the educational goals of the district.
Proper behavior, as it relates to the use of computers, is no different than proper behavior in
all other aspects of Southwest ISD activities. All users are expected to use the computers
and computer networks in a responsible, ethical, and polite manner. This document is
intended to clarify those expectations as they apply to computer and network usage and is
consistent with District Policy.
Employees who are authorized to use the system are required to abide by the provisions of
the acceptable use policy and administrative procedures. Failure to do so can result in
suspension of access or termination of privileges and may lead to disciplinary action.
Employees with questions about computer use and data management can contact Joe
Martinez, Executive Director of Technology Operations at (210) 622-4344.
Acceptable Use
The District’s technology resources will be used only for learning, teaching and
