EDLE5023 The School Principalship (Sp, Su) Duties and responsibilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> public school<br />

building administrator; examination and analysis <strong>of</strong> problems, issues, and current trends in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ory and practice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principalship.<br />

EDLE5033 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Learning (Sp) (Odd years, Su) This course prepares educational<br />

leaders to create and sustain a learning centered environment in school settings. Students will<br />

study learning <strong>the</strong>ory across <strong>the</strong> lifespan and apply it to <strong>the</strong> practice <strong>of</strong> instructional leadership,<br />

curriculum design, and staff development.<br />

EDLE5043 Leadership Ethics (Odd years, Su) (Fa) Leadership Ethics is an experiential based<br />

course grounded in ethical decision making <strong>the</strong>ory that uses case study and practice to study<br />

school based ethical dilemmas.<br />

EDLE5053 School Law (Odd years, Su) (Fa) Legal aspects <strong>of</strong> public and private schooling:<br />

federal and state legislative statues and judicial decisions, with emphasis upon Arkansas public<br />

EDLE5063 Instructional Leadership, Planning, and Supervision (Odd years, Su) (Fa)<br />

Instructional Leadership, Planning, and Supervision is designed to prepare practitioners to seize<br />

<strong>the</strong> role <strong>of</strong> educational leader at <strong>the</strong> school site level through <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> a vision that will<br />

be used to drive a data driven instructional school plan.<br />

EDLE5073 Research for Leaders (Sp) (Odd years, Su) This course introduces research methodology<br />

that will support school leaders as consumers <strong>of</strong> educational research and supervisors<br />

<strong>of</strong> action research within <strong>the</strong>ir schools. Practical application <strong>of</strong> research for school leaders is<br />

emphasized.<br />

EDLE5083 Analytical Decision-Making (Sp) (Even years, Su) Analytical Decision Making is<br />

a performance based examination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principles and practices related to <strong>the</strong> building administrator’s<br />

role in <strong>the</strong> development, administration, and evaluation <strong>of</strong> curricular programs in public<br />

schools. This includes creating a school culture, fostering communication, aligning curriculum<br />

with state mandated standards, and staff development.<br />

examination <strong>of</strong> strategic planning, group facilitation and decision-making, organizational behavior<br />

Emphasis placed on <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> state and local school or district data, data analysis, interpretation<br />

and reporting, hands-on experience with SPSS, and <strong>the</strong> formal process <strong>of</strong> writing a research<br />

report. Prerequisite: Advanced graduate standing.<br />

EDLE6513 Program Evaluation in Education (Sp) Program Evaluation in Education is<br />

designed to introduce students to concepts and methods <strong>of</strong> policy and program evaluation.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on preparing educational leadership students to conduct a program<br />

evaluation specialist project <strong>of</strong> dissertation. Prerequisite: EDLE 6503 and ESRM 6403 or equivalent.<br />

EDLE6523 Advanced Application <strong>of</strong> Educational Leadership (Odd years, Su) A review <strong>of</strong><br />

seminal and current works on leadership as applied to <strong>the</strong> educational setting. Provides knowledge<br />

<strong>of</strong> classic and contemporary strategies for leadership.<br />

EDLE6533 Educational Policy (Odd years, Sp) Examination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> research and <strong>the</strong>ory related<br />

to <strong>the</strong> evolution <strong>of</strong> local, state, and federal governance and educational policy. Emphasis given<br />

to <strong>the</strong> consideration <strong>of</strong> procedures involving policy formulation, implementation, and analysis.<br />

EDLE6553 Advanced Qualitative Methods in Educational Research (Sp) This course has<br />

been designed to provide graduate students with a more in-depth understanding <strong>of</strong> qualitative<br />

research methods. Emphasis will be placed on preparing educational leadership students to design<br />

a qualitative or mixed-method dissertation study. Prerequisite: ESRM 6543 or WDED 572V.<br />

EDLE6563 Advanced Data Collection for Program Evaluation (Odd years, Fa) This course<br />

is designed to provide graduate students with an in-depth understanding <strong>of</strong> how to effectively<br />

collect data for a program evaluation. Emphasis will be placed on guiding educational leadership<br />

students through <strong>the</strong> data collection procedures <strong>the</strong>y will use for <strong>the</strong>ir dissertation. Prerequisite:<br />

EDLE6573 Advanced Empirical Analysis for Program Evaluation (Sp) This course is designed<br />

to provide graduate students with an in-depth understanding <strong>of</strong> how to effectively analyze<br />

data for a program evaluation. Emphasis will be placed on guiding educational leadership<br />

students through <strong>the</strong> data analysis procedures <strong>the</strong>y will use for <strong>the</strong>ir dissertation. Prerequisite:<br />

EDLE 6563.<br />

The Educational Technology Program is a 34-hour non-<strong>the</strong>sis on-line<br />

master’s program that prepares students for pr<strong>of</strong>essional positions as educational<br />

technologists <strong>of</strong> education, business, government, and <strong>the</strong> health pr<strong>of</strong>essions.<br />

Prerequisites to Degree Programs: Applicants for <strong>the</strong> M.Ed. degree<br />

must have completed a bachelor’s degree and earned a 3.00 GPA on <strong>the</strong> last<br />

60 hours <strong>of</strong> undergraduate course work or obtained an acceptable score on <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examinations or Miller Analogies Test.<br />

Requirements for <strong>the</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Education Degree: In addition to<br />

<strong>the</strong> general requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Graduate</strong> School, students must complete a<br />

minimum <strong>of</strong> 34 hours <strong>of</strong> graduate course work to include 22 semester hours<br />

<strong>of</strong> educational technology courses; nine semester hours <strong>of</strong> education technology<br />

courses; and three semester hours <strong>of</strong> research. Additionally, a Culminating<br />

Student Portfolio must be successfully completed in <strong>the</strong> last semester <strong>of</strong> course<br />

work in <strong>the</strong> EPortfolio Production course and will replace <strong>the</strong> <strong>Graduate</strong> School<br />

requirement <strong>of</strong> a comprehensive examination. (Note: Degree requirements<br />

have recently changed. Those students who entered <strong>the</strong> program in a previous<br />

year who have not maintained continuous enrollment may petition <strong>the</strong><br />

program coordinator to be allowed to continue under <strong>the</strong> catalog in effect<br />

when <strong>the</strong>y were admitted.)<br />
