Units / Sandblasting technique - Accessories Correct sandblasting technique Nozzle design The diameters of the sandblasting nozzles vary from 0.4 to 2 mm and this allows the amount of abrasive agent to be regulated. The nozzle size also determines the angle of dispersion of the abrasive agent. The smaller the nozzle, the more sandblasting is focused on one point, and the larger the nozzle, the larger the surface covered. Renfert wide-slotted nozzles produce special fanshaped jets and are ideal for sandblasting larger surfaces. A sandblaster with different abrasive agent tanks and nozzles (e.g. Basic quattro) is the best option for ensuring consistent and optimum sandblasting results. Nozzle distance and angle The distance between the nozzle and the casting is crucial. The closer the nozzle is to the casting, the greater the pressure of impact, and the further the nozzle is from the casting, the weaker the effect. To attain consistent results, the nozzle distance should not be altered. If material is to be removed during sandblasting, it is important to hold Info the sandblasting nozzle at an obtuse angle to the casting. This prevents excessive pressure on one point or sandblasting through the casting, e.g. at thin areas of the framework. Uniform flow of abrasive agent A uniform (homogeneous) flow of abrasive agent is required irrespective of the level of abrasive agent in the tank: this is very important in preventing a reduction in quality or loss of time (e.g. through cracks in the porcelain due to different degrees of shrinkage).
