1. Project Name<br />
Construction of 100 Housing Units to re-house Palestinian families in Gaza Strip.<br />
2. Context<br />
The United Nations Development Programme <strong>UNDP</strong>, through its programme of assistance to the<br />
Palestinian People PAPP, is implementing a housing project to re-house the affected families,<br />
whose houses have been demolished during the Israeli Army intensive operations in Gaza Strip<br />
between December, 2008 and January, <strong>2009</strong>.<br />
The United Nations Development Programme/ programme of assistance to the Palestinian People<br />
<strong>UNDP</strong>/PAPP (the “Employer”) has received a grant from The Custodian of the Two Holy<br />
Mosques Campaign <strong>for</strong> Relief of the Palestinian People in Gaza towards the Construction of 100<br />
Housing Units and related services in North of Gaza Strip.<br />
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (the “Client”) has offered a piece of land with an area<br />
around 18,500 m2 <strong>for</strong> the project on parcel No. 36 of Block No.1742 located in Biet Lahia- Al<br />
Salateen Neighborhood. The project will be part of Al Ferdaws Neighborhood on which the<br />
Client intends to construct a new housing complex.<br />
<strong>UNDP</strong>/PAPP intends to recruit a locally based Consulting Firm (the “Consultant”) to design and<br />
prepare tender documents <strong>for</strong> Construction of 100 Housing Units and related services in North of<br />
Gaza Strip.<br />
Terms of <strong>Ref</strong>erence are prepared <strong>for</strong> the provision of the complete and detailed designs<br />
(architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical works) and the preparation of all construction<br />
tender documents and bills of quantities <strong>for</strong> the construction of 100 housing units and related<br />
services in North of Gaza Strip.<br />
3. Purpose of the work<br />
It is envisaged that the residential buildings will be occupied by the families whose houses have<br />
been demolished during the recent Israeli Army operations in Gaza Strip. The project will<br />
stimulate growth of other infrastructure like roads, water network, sewage network, reliable<br />
electricity network, telecommunication services and landscape facilities.<br />
The residential complex should there<strong>for</strong>e be modern, reflecting the architecture and social<br />
elements of neighborhood and characterized with appropriate means so that it is a landmark in the<br />
area and blends very well among the surrounding virgin environment.
