This document is in a format that reflects the
way the project has been conducted. First
of all there is some context for the roadmap
project, notably a list of the key contributors
and some of their views on the project. The
focus then shifts to the upstream oil and gas
industry’s ambitions, these based on the vision
provided by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Next there is a section on the roadmap
development process, before attention is
turned to the technology challenges facing the
industry in Kazakhstan – and their possible
solutions. The challenges and solutions
were assessed in a variety of ways, and
the main findings are summarised here. This
leads into the topic maps for each of the
main challenges. These plot the technology
developments deemed necessary to generate
the solutions called for by the industry. The
roadmap comes full circle, finally, when all of
the information generated during the project
is examined in light of the key issues outlined
at the start – R&D focus, industry opportunities
and skills development in Kazakhstan. There
are maps for each of these areas, which point
the way forward for the upstream oil and gas
industry in the country.
