the sour crudes found in Kazakhstan but also
to operate in what is a distinctly challenging
environment represents a huge challenge.
Corrosion is a constant threat. Drilling is
difficult. There are tremendous demands put
on offshore structures. And dealing with all
of the sulphur produced is one of the biggest
issues facing the Kazakhstan upstream oil and
gas industry.
The challenges in this area are immediately
obvious to anyone with any upstream
experience. They affect production directly
and continuously, a fact that perhaps explains
why they were considered to be among the
most important challenges by participants in
