I am a former attorney with the Dept. <strong>of</strong> Justice who moved to <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong> over 14 years ago.<br />
Currently, I am the co-owner <strong>of</strong> Run <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong>, LLC, an organization that seeks to encourage<br />
running and a healthy active lifestyle. I am very excited about the prospect <strong>of</strong> bringing a worldclass<br />
Ironman event to <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong>. I believe it will be a great economic, community, and charitable<br />
opportunity for the <strong>Island</strong>. It would also be a perfect opportunity to showcase the natural<br />
beauty <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong>. After 14+ years, it still inspires me each time I drive (or run, or bike) over<br />
the bridge. My family <strong>of</strong> four runners would be thrilled to provide volunteer services at an Ironman<br />
Triathlon in any way possible.<br />

I write to you with intense excitement over the possibility <strong>of</strong> seeing an event such as IRONMAN<br />
HILTON HEAD take place in our lovely island town. As with the Heritage Golf Tournament and<br />
the Concours D'elegance, this is an event that would bring international attention to our town in<br />
a very positive light. Having been an avid multisport participant for over 10 years, and a previous<br />
participant in an Ironman event, I can attest to the great feeling these events bring to a venue,<br />
not to mention the excellent logistical administration provided by the Ironman company. With<br />
such an event certainly one can realize that there will be enormous revenues to be had by the<br />
township and all <strong>of</strong> its business partners. Also, the Ironman label also brings another great opportunity<br />
for the local charitable organizations to benefit. Obviously, we have already staged<br />
several smaller multisport events here with great success, so some <strong>of</strong> the support is already in<br />
place for such a larger scale race.<br />
On a more personal note, as a local physician, I believe this will allow us to show the world just<br />
what a healthy (and fitness oriented) place <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong> <strong>Island</strong> is and perhaps encourage other<br />
athletes to consider a visit to our beautiful island. I also can pledge my support as a phyician for<br />
voluntary medical support for the event along with my practice, Palmetto Anesthesia and Pain,<br />
staff <strong>of</strong> 4 phyisicians and 6 advanced practice nurses. I also am certain that, speaking as a part<br />
owner, the Outpatient Surgery Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hilton</strong> <strong>Head</strong> would welcome the opportunity to provide<br />
more nursing and administrative support in addition to my practice's pledge. Also, I know<br />
for a fact that at least 6 other physicians who are multisport athletes, who would also be interested<br />
in being involved. Hence, I think you can see that there will be plenty <strong>of</strong> medical support<br />
for such an event. I would, thus, ask those <strong>of</strong> you who are <strong>Town</strong> Council members to seriously<br />
consider this fantastic opportunity for our great island town.<br />
