Brief profiles of the directors of ArcelorMittal at the date of this
Bidder’s Statement are set out below.
Lakshmi N. Mittal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Mittal is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal.
He founded Mittal Steel Company in 1976 and guided its strategic
development, culminating in the merger with Arcelor, agreed in
2006. Since the merger, Mr. Mittal has led a successful integration,
establishing ArcelorMittal as one of the world’s foremost industrial
companies. He is widely recognised for the leading role he has played
in restructuring the steel industry towards a more consolidated and
globalised model.
Mr. Mittal is an active philanthropist and a member of various boards
and trusts, including the boards of Goldman Sachs and European
Aeronautic Defence & Space Company N.V. He is also a member
of the Indian Prime Minister’s Global Advisory Council, Kazakhstan’s
Foreign Investment Council, World Economic Forum’s International
Business Council, World Steel Association’s Executive Committee
and the Presidential International Advisory Board of Mozambique. He
also sits on the Advisory Board of the Kellogg School of Management
in the United States and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the
Cleveland Clinic.
Mr. Mittal has received numerous awards and honours such as
Fortune’s 2004 ‘European Businessman of the Year’, Financial
Times’ 2006 ‘Person of the Year’, the 2007 Dwight D. Eisenhower
Global Leadership Award and Forbes 2008 ‘Lifetime Achievement
Award’. In October 2010, he was awarded the World Steel
Association’s medal for services to the World Steel Association
and for contributing to the sustainable development of the global
steel industry.
Mr. Mittal graduated from St Xavier’s College in Kolkata where he
received a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Lewis B. Kaden, Lead Independent Director
Mr. Kaden is the Lead Independent Director of ArcelorMittal. He
has approximately 38 years of experience in corporate governance,
financial services, dispute resolution and economic policy, making him
a valuable member of the ArcelorMittal Board.
Mr. Kaden is currently Vice Chairman of Citigroup. Prior to that,
he was a partner of the law firm Davis Polk & Wardell, and served
as Counsel to the Governor of New Jersey, as a Professor of Law
at Columbia University and as a director of Columbia University’s
Centre for Law and Economic Studies. He has served as a director of
Bethlehem Steel Corporation for ten years and is currently Chairman
of the Board of Directors of the Markle Foundation.
