the fate of an Åland skipper<br />
The tale ‘Skonaren Maria’ (The Schooner Maria) by<br />
Bertil Lindqvist takes its inspiration from the days of<br />
the tall ships on Åland. See this realistic drama at the<br />
barn theatre at Skeppargården Pellas in Lemland,<br />
this summer. Performances are in Swedish.<br />
Come on Charlie!<br />
Be carried away by Larry Shue’s comic farce ‘Kom Igen Charlie’,<br />
(Come On Charlie!) in Badhusparken, Mariehamn. This<br />
funny piece is easy to digest but contains some serious food<br />
for thought. The play’s central theme is xenophobia and follows<br />
the depressed Charlie who has happened upon a remote<br />
guesthouse in southern USA. To avoid socialising with other<br />
guests he pretends to be a foreigner who does not understand<br />
the language. This leads to many laughs and a great deal of<br />
tension, especially when we the Ku Klux Klan get involved.<br />
‘Come on Charlie!’ is an adult play which is also suitable for<br />
children of 10 yrs and up.<br />

summer’s house of laughs<br />
Bentes outdoor theatre invites you to relish in some<br />
light-hearted farce on a balmy evening. This year’s<br />
offering is ‘Snålvatten och jäkelskap’, (Envy and<br />
Menace) from the popular Swedish comic Krister<br />
Claesson, and is certain to be a rollicking evening.<br />
