replied saying they intended holding meetings at a future time,
but could not afford any extra expense this year. Those who
desired Mr. Steele's services felt they should pay his expenses
as no provision was made for that by Synod, and sometimes
frankly said they could not afford it. It has been very largely
a year of playing safe financially." Three plans of evangelistic
effort were placed before the church by those in charge of the
work.
I.—A series of meetings to win the unsaved and seek the
reviving of those already members.
II.—A plan of visitation evangelism centering around the
prayer group.
III.—A week of Psalm singing. A number of congregations
used one of these plans with fine success reported. Mr.
R. A. M. Steele's time was largely taken in meetings and addresses
in different congregations. He shared the work in Selma,
Chicago, Morning Sun, Beulah, Eskridge, Topeka, Winchester,
Barnet, Rose Point, Bear Run and Mahoning, New
Castle, Union, Miller's Run, Wilkinsburgh, New Galilee and
East End.
Mr. Steele's report closes as follows: "It was not until
October that I learned the fact that Rev. J. D. Edgar had decided
not to take up the work. On account of his appointment
I was waiting for him to direct me and make my appointments.
In this I was handicapped, for had I not been expecting him to
take charge at any moment, I could have gone ahead and arranged
to be busy all of my time. In all of my talks I have
tried my utmost to instill into the minds of the people the importance
of being loyal to the Covenanter cause, and also have
tried to the best of my ability to elevate the Psalms with the
music to the place where they properly belong." If we had the
means to finance a program of evangelism for the coming year,
there is a large field to be cultivated. Careful consideration
should be given to the needs of this work in framing our
Budget.
Prayer Meeting Topics.
W. C. McClurkin reports that he filledhis appointment to
prepare the topics, and print and distribute the folders. Three
thousand folders were printed at a cost of thirty-five dollars.
The expense of advertising and mailing was $6.82, making a
total cost of $41.82. 2630 folders were ordered by 61 congregations,
and 58 of these paid $47.36 for them, with $1.40 yet to
be collected. The balance on hand is $6.96.

The work of the Secretary of Young People has been very
