Mission funds with a view to increasing minister's
salaries.
2. In view of the special appeals based upon requests for
prayer from the workers in the Southern and Indian
missions and sent out to the congregations periodically
by the Board, Synod urges upon the whole church the
duty and privilege of making prayer unceasingly for
"Power from on High" upon all our congregations and
all our Home Mission fields.
3. That ministers be urged to make special and frequent
statements from the pulpit concerning our Home Mission
work as to what it is, its vital importance, the
needs of this field, accompanied by earnest appeal for
the whole-hearted support of this work.
4. That at the close of the discussion of the report of the
committee on Home Missions Synod engage in special
prayer for our Home Mission work.
The term for which J. C. Slater, D. H. Elliott, S. G. Conner,
J. B. Willson and W. M. Doig were elected has expired and
their successors should be chosen at this meeting of Synod.
We recommend the election of Rev. J. G. Reed as a member of
the Board in the place of Rev. W. M. Doig, who is no longer
located so he can attend the meetings.
J. M. Johnston and R. J. Mclsaac have been named by the
Board to speak before Synod in behalf of the Southern Mission;
R. C. Adams and D. B. Martin in behalf of the Indian Mission
and in the behalf of Home Missions, E. L. McKnight.
REPORT OF THE JEWISH MISSION BOARD.
The Jewish Mission Board respectfully submits the following
report:
We have held five regular meetings during the synodical
year. Our missionaries, Miss Annie Forsyth and Miss Elizabeth
Forsyth have greatly appreciated the intercession of the
groups of praying friends throughout the church on behalf of
the Jewish Mission. We cannot help but feel the added strength
which God alone can give when we call upon Him in prayer.
There has undoubtedly been a greater responsiveness which
leads us to hope for better things and go forward in God's
truth. "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it
is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth,
to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
One of our inquirers has been given the courage recently,
in spite of bitter persecution by relatives, to make an open confession
of his faith in Christ. He testified in Mr. Burgen's
Reading room that he made his decision at "Fifth and Catherine"
(as our Mission is called), and it was there that he experienced
the peace of Christ in his heart. He asks for the
