ness on Reeves Jfield has been fully paid, with a small margin
to add to the new gymnasium fund.
Dr. Martin's labors are many and varied, gathering in
money where he can, and saving money by careful buying.
His patient and persistent work in arousing and keeping alive
the interest of the alumni in the,college is bearing fruit. And
as publicity man he is telling the world what Geneva is doing.
Miss McKinney, the registrar, and Miss Girvan, the treasurer,
with their helpers in the office are finding more and more
to do and are doing it better and better. They are a busy
group.
Enrollment
The net total in all departments, enrolled this year was
1,577. This is 58 more than last year, due largely to the increase
in the Extension School. In the day school were 527,
Extension School 736, Summer Session 305, School of Music
185, School of Public Speaking 19. This totals 1,772. Of these
195 are duplications. A class of 115 will graduate, 101 at the
June commencement, 14 in August. 21 of the class are Covenanter
young people. Four of the class expect to go to Theological
seminaries this fall.
Spiritual Culture
Geneva has a good name as a Christian college^ There is
an atmosphere that is wholesome. A large percentage of the
students come from religious homes. Many of other churches
send their children to Geneva because of this atmosphere. Not
all of the students breathe deeply of it. Some resist it. But
it is there and the students, as a whole, are a fine earnest group
of young people. The Y. M. C. A. and Y. W. C. A. take top
rank among such organizations in the state. Dr. Pearce has
made a strong religious appeal in his monthly convocation
sermons. Daily chapel hour is a period of prayer, praise and
the reading of the word. These reach nearly 500 young people
every morning. Dr. Pearce and members of the faculty conducted
a series of special religious services during the year.
There is an earnest effort to bring the students face to face
with the claims of Christ upon their life and service, during
their college life. The key note of this effort was struck by
President Pearce in his baccalaureate sermon on the text:
"All things are yours, and ye are Christ's." Dean Lee says—
"The prayers of the faculty are continually and earnestly
raised to the Heavenly Father for the good of his children
especially under our care."
Bible Department
One of the fine opportunities to cultivate the spiritual life
of the students is in the class rooms where the Bible itself is
the text book. This reaches all the students in the two years
of required Bible courses. Prof. Tweed has given courses in
Old Testament History, Bible Pedagogy, Life of Christ, Biblical
Apostolic Sociology, Age, Apostolic and Professor Old Age; Testament Mrs. John Coleman History. in in Life extension Professor Christ, classes, Tweed and
