RECRUITMENT ADVERTISING T Nanoscience & Materials he Department of Chemistry and the Materials Science Institute at the University of Oregon are seeking outstanding candidates as part of a new cluster of hires within the fields of materials science and nanoscience. This exciting opportunity builds off a decade of program growth and a strong regional partnership through the Oregon Nano science & Microtechnologies Insti tute (ONAMI). The ideal candidate is a senior investigator with a well-established research program related to the UO’s nanoscale and materials science programs related to sustainability. This new position, also created in partnership with ONAMI, is a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the fundamental science of materials or nanomaterials. The potential for establishing a vigorous independent research program in materials chemistry and active participation and excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels will be the most important criteria for selection. The Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Washington seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to begin Autumn Quarter 2009. The candidate for this entry-level, tenure-track position should have an excellent record of published research in the field of materials science and engineering with a research focus on molecular engineering (MolE). MolE is a broadly defined field associated with the design, fabrication, and delivery of functional molecules and molecular systems for a broad range of applications including medical, energy, electronics, and photonics. The candidates’ work should be truly interdisciplinary in nature with potential to establish collaborations with departments in physical and biological sciences, engineering, and medicine. The selected faculty will have ample opportunities to collaborate with a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary centers and institutes including the NSF-STC on Materials & Devices for Information Technology, the NSF-MRSEC on Genetically Engineered Materials Science & Engineering Center, the NIH-funded Microscale Life Science Center, and the Institute of Advanced Materials & Technology. The department seeks candidates at the assistant professor rank; however, commensurate with the qualifications of the individual, an appointment may be made at the rank of associate professor. INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR ADVANCED RENEWABLE ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY Endowed Professorships in Science, Engineering, Architecture, and Social Science. Washington University in St. Louis has launched a bold new initiative to address the challenges of energy and sustainability on a global scale. The International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (I-CARES) (http://i-cares.wustl.edu) was created in June 2007 to foster research on energy, environment, and sustainability that cannot be done by single investigators alone. I-CARES nurtures collaborations within Washington University and with regional and international partners in order to contribute to rapid progress in addressing the world’s energy crisis. Our goals are to: • Foster research on the development of renewable fuels and alternative energy sources • Develop innovative technologies for the mitigation of greenhouse gases with an emphasis on clean coal utilization • Explore transformational ideas, systems and practices related to energy supply and demand, sustainability, and environmental impact.
