The Lights are Up,
the Stage is Ready,
the Mic is Open
Open Mic Night at IUP

The lights are dimmed. Teetering tables
and towering chairs dot the room, some
in tight clusters, others by themselves.
Attendees and performers slowly start filing in
as early as 7:20 p.m. Music plays through the
speakers as the seats steadily fill up. Friendly
chatter can be heard through the doors. The
man who runs the show encourages performers
to add their names to the list, and once
that list starts growing, it’s time to begin.
Open Mic Night at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania is a place on campus where
students can go to turn their Monday evenings
into something to look forward to. The event
is an entertaining way to recover from everyone’s
least favorite day of the week. Performers
either cover another musician’s piece, or they
put on an original act.
