The show has many different
segments: Politics,
Hollywood, Jackass and
Saint of the Week, Socially
Awkward Producer, First
World Problems, What
Grinds My Gears, Someone’s
Soapbox and also a segment
called “Weekly Dose of IUP”
where the cast talks about
what’s going on around
campus.
Milkos said she decided to
become a part of IUP-TV because
she wanted to get her
foot in the door right away.
“This station is the reason
I came to IUP. Everyone
is very helpful and full of
advice. I really think I’m
learning a lot of great things
by being a part of the station
that will help me in my
future career.”
Shardae “Shae” Celestino is
another student who is no
stranger to the television
spotlight. The Communications
Media major from
Philadelphia has been the
host of “Urban Superior,” an
urban entertainment news
show since the fall of 2009.
“I joined because I have a
passion for being on television,
and it relates to what I
want to do as future career
goals and in the same
entertainment genre,” said
Celestino.
The show airs every Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday,
and Friday at 8:30 pm and
every Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday, and Saturday at
1:30 pm on channels 6 off-campus and
channel 20 on campus.
Urban Superior works with different
people (on- and off-camera) from
different backgrounds with different
interests that really add to the dynamic
of the show.
The various segments of the show include:
Buggin (opinionated segment),
Fashion, Gossip, Music News, What’s
Poppin (campus event news), It’s A
Rap (poetry, rap, singing, etc.), Top 5
(list of the week), Gender Wars (male
and female opinionated segment),
What’s Trending (Twitter segment)
and Sports.
“What makes Urban Superior so great
is the fact that it is so diverse and not
your typical news show,” said Celestino.
“I think it’s important to have this
style of news show on IUP TV because
there isn’t just one way to deliver news
and there isn’t just one type of news
genre, and Urban Superior definitely
defines that, and lives up to its name.”
In order to create a show, you must
first be a regular member of IUP-TV
but you don’t necessarily need to be a
communications major. (read more)
You will also need to go through the
application and approval process. Last
academic semester alone, six original
shows were created and broadcast
regularly.
“The communication between IUP-TV
and official university communication
is phenomenal,” said communications
media professor, Dr. Jay Start. (read

Dr. Start says the message of IUP-TV
is to cater to IUP students and needs
of other viewers. He hopes that more
people come out for the station.
