Movie Night
Indiana has only one movie rental store in the town.
Family Video has a large selection of old school movies
like the original ‘Halloween’ series and ‘Scarface’
as well as new releases like, ‘Breaking Dawn Pt. 1’ and
‘Tower Heist’.
“I actually don’t rent or stream
movies, I’ll either buy them or
watch someone else’s movies,” said
Lashae Lewis, senior Sociology major.
If you don’t feel like leaving the house, there are several
sites that offer DVD rentals or live streaming. According
to No1Reviews.com; the Top 5 best DVD rental
sites in the US are Blockbuster Total Access, Netflix,
GreenCine (pronounced Green Scene), DVD avenue and
Café DVD. These sites trade in the immediacy of new
releases for the convenience of staying inside. Though
not as new as buying or renting the DVD, these sites offer
new releases such as, ‘The Hangover Pt. II’, ‘50/50’ and
‘Contagion’.
All About RedBox
Red Box is a portable kiosk company started in America;
that specializes in the rental of DVD’s, Blu – Ray and
Video Games. By the end of June 2011, Red box had over
33,000 kiosks in over 27,800 locations, such as, grocery stores,
pharmacies, retail stores, convenience stores and even fast food
restaurants.
The Box’s are easy to find with company’s signature red
color and its arched top surface, visible in the corporate
logo.
Funded by the McDonald’s Corporation in 2002, the company
originally placed four automated convenience store
kiosks; which sold grocery items such as milk, eggs, and
sandwiches, along with 11 DVD rental kiosks in Washington
Metropolitan Area locations.
Red box withdrew the grocery kiosks in a year, but, the
DVD-rental kiosks it had installed in the area were
successful; and the company changed its focus to that
market. In 2005, Coinstar bought 47 percent of the company
for $32 million.
Between early 2008 and 2009, Coinstar gradually increased
their shareholdings completely buying the Red Box franchise.
Coinstar paid McDonald’s and other investors between
$169 and $176 million for the remainder of the company.
In February of 2012, the company announced that it intended
to set up hundreds of Kiosks North of the border
in hopes of crossing over completely in the Canadian
Market.]
Gaming Anyone?
Instead of watching movies maybe videogames are
more your speed. For gaming options Indiana has
Game Stop and Video Game World. Though Game
Stop is a purchase only store, it offers the newest
game releases new releases like “Binary Domain” and
“Mortal Kombat the Komplete Edition” are selling
for $53 - $57 on most gaming sites. However, newer
releases like “Mass Effect 3”, “Assassin’s Creed:
Revelations – Lost Archive” or the new “Resident Evil
– Operation Raccoon City” have yet to be accurately
priced. Sometimes you have to go old – school and
break out the board games and the dominos. Older
games like monopoly, Operation, Apples to Apples and
