The Research Committee ensures <strong>the</strong> call for applicants is published in good time for<br />

submissions to be considered and approved for inclusion in <strong>the</strong> session dedicated to <strong>the</strong><br />

award. The Chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Research Committee selects examiners to attend in order to assess<br />

<strong>the</strong> verbal presentations and determine <strong>the</strong> winner. The prize is normally awarded by <strong>the</strong><br />

Chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Research Committee during one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> evening receptions. The Local<br />

Organising Committee must ensure a suitable lecture <strong>the</strong>atre with projection facilities is<br />

available for <strong>the</strong> verbal presentations (normally one session) and for <strong>the</strong> social programme to<br />

include an opportunity for <strong>the</strong> prize to be awarded.<br />

4.4 Social programme<br />

This normally includes:<br />

Welcome reception<br />

Official congress<br />

reception<br />

Official Group<br />

receptions<br />

Free evening<br />

The reception takes place normally on <strong>the</strong> Wednesday evening and<br />

should be provided in <strong>the</strong> trade exhibition area. Entrance is subject<br />

to registration and display <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> congress badge. Transport should<br />

be provided if <strong>the</strong> reception is remote from <strong>the</strong> congress venue.<br />

The reception is normally free for participants and accompanying<br />

persons. Guests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ESE/Host <strong>Society</strong> may be invited.<br />

The reception is normally a formal state or city reception arranged<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Thursday evening. It provides an opportunity to present <strong>the</strong><br />

ESE research grant, <strong>the</strong> Hans Genet award, <strong>the</strong> ESE Wladimir<br />

Adlivankine research prize and o<strong>the</strong>r honours agreed between <strong>the</strong><br />

ESE and local organisers; venues should allow sufficient space to<br />

accommodate <strong>the</strong> attendees in one room/area. An appropriate stage<br />

and sound system must be provided - welcome speeches should be<br />

kept to a minimum.<br />

Transport should be provided if <strong>the</strong> reception is remote from <strong>the</strong><br />

congress venue. Entrance is subject to registration and display <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> congress badge. The reception is normally free for participants<br />

and accompanying persons. Guests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ESE/Host <strong>Society</strong> may<br />

be invited.<br />

Subject to ESE and Local Organising Committee approval<br />

receptions may be organised for a) ESE Certified/Specialist<br />

Members; b) Postgraduate students on taught programmes; c)<br />

Alumni <strong>of</strong> graduate endodontic programmes within Europe. The<br />

Thursday and Friday lunchtime may be suitable for such events;<br />

<strong>the</strong> reception(s) would normally be held at <strong>the</strong> Congress venue.<br />

Entrance is subject to invitation, registration and display <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

congress badge. The costs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se <strong>of</strong>ficial group functions must<br />

be clarified by <strong>the</strong> Local Organising Committee with <strong>the</strong><br />

sponsoring organisation.<br />

Friday has traditionally been a free evening when <strong>the</strong> local<br />

organisers can arrange a smaller function for speakers and guests<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ESE/Host <strong>Society</strong> if required. However, it may be more<br />

appropriate for <strong>the</strong> Gala Dinner (or equivalent) to be held on <strong>the</strong><br />
