SAMHSA’s Strategic Initiative: Trauma &
Justice
→Trauma-informed practices are important for all human
service systems. Trauma specific services can hasten
recovery for many clients.
→In the absence of trauma-informed care, a trauma survivor’s
path is often marked by multiple failed encounters with
social services agencies.
→Until it leads to the most costly of all social service systems:
the Criminal Justice System.
