The Trauma Conversation, Redirecting
and Giving Voice
►Silencing those who have found the
courage to speak is as re-traumatizing as
delving and probing. Perpetrators of abuse
attempt to keep their victims silent.
However, if staff is spending a great deal of
time in discussion of the details of the past
abuse, it will take a toll.
►Modeling safe language to name
experiences and teaching boundaries in the
area of self-disclosure is also helpful.
