The Trauma Conversation, Redirecting
and Giving Voice
►It is crucial to educate about trauma:
intrusion, the power of sensory recall, and
vicarious trauma. This is as important to
client self-care as it is to preventing
compassion fatigue among staff.
►Rules of thumb: allow clients to take the
lead on conversations, do not probe or
silence. Master simple re-directing
techniques , encourage self-soothing or
grounding if there is distress.
