Trauma is devastatingly interpersonal for women
and children. It involves violations that are tragically
intimate or the threat of lethal violence from a loved
one. Betrayal accompanies these types of traumatic
experiences. They are the most likely to result in
serious mental health problems and a drastic
alteration in one’s assumptions about the world.
