An excellent coverage player at Michigan, Trent
has the size and strength to develop into an effective
bump-and-run player in Bengals scheme … A three-year
Wolverine starter, he posted 31 career passes defended
(interceptions plus break-ups), fi fth in school history
… Switched from RCB to LCB in 2007, taking over the
spot vacated by former Wolverine and current Bengal
Leon Hall.
COACH KEVIN COYLE SAYS: “I remember when
we were evaluating Leon Hall a few years ago, there was
this No. 14 who kept catching your eye on the tape. And
at the Michigan workout that year, I remember meeting
(Trent) and saying, ‘Maybe in a couple years, I could
be back here talking to you.’ It’s funny how it ended up
panning out. Morgan is a good-sized player, and he ran
sub-4.5 at the Combine. He fi ts the style of defense we
are playing now.”
COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: CAREER—Played four
seasons (2005-08) at Michigan, seeing action in 48 games
with 41 starts … Did not play as a redshirt in 2004 …
Totaled 149 tackles, with seven INTs and 24 additional
passes defended. 2008—Started all 12 games at LCB and
served as one of four team captains … Named to Watch
List for ’08 Thorpe Award (nation’s top DB) … Had two
INTs on Sept. 13 at Notre Dame. 2007—Started all 13
games at LCB as Michigan fi nished 9-4, with Capital One
Bowl victory over Florida … Had two INTs and a careerhigh
10 passes broken up … Shared team’s Outstanding
Defensive Contributor award with LB Shawn Crable …
Used his speed to make a notable touchdown-saving
2006—Started 11 games at RCB as a sophomore for
Michigan club that went 11-0 before losing its final two,
TOUGH SWITCH: Trent was a star wide receiver
in high school and was recruited at that position, but
he was switched to DB during his 2004 redshirt year
at Michigan. “Coach (Lloyd) Carr thought it would be a
good move for me, and I wanted to be on the field, so I
was willing,” Trent says. “It’s a much harder position than
playing receiver. You’re out there by yourself. You have to
be mentally tough.”
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended St. Mary’s HS in Orchard
Lake, Mich. … Earned most of his notice at WR, where
