Game 15 Bengals 14, Browns 0
Sunday, Dec. 21, at Cleveland Browns Stadium
The Bengals posted the ninth shutout win in franchise history and
their second shutout win at Cleveland in the last three seasons. Cincinnati
had four INTs, including a club-record tying three by CB Leon Hall, and
allowed a season-low 182 yards. Hall scored the game’s first TD with
a 50-yard INT in the first quarter. Offensively, on a cold and windy day
(18 degrees, zero wind chill), the Bengals attempted only nine passes,
the club’s fewest since 1974. But HB Cedric Benson rushed for a
career-high 171 yards, most by a Bengal since Rudi Johnson’s 202 vs.
Cleveland in 2004, and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick capped a 15-play, 89-yard
drive for the game’s only offensive TD with a 20-yard scoring pass to
WR Chris Henry. The Bengals regained the lead (36-35) in the “Battle of
Ohio” series against the Browns and improved to 3-11-1 on the season.
Cleveland fell to 4-10.
Game 16 Bengals 16, Chiefs 6
Sunday, Dec. 28, at Paul Brown Stadium
The Bengals jumped on Kansas City early, building a 13-0 halftime
lead. The Chiefs were held to 50 net yards and two first downs in the
first half. Bengals HB Cedric Benson had his second straight 100-yard
rushing game, gaining 111 on 25 carries, and his two-yard TD run gave
Cincinnati a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter, capping an 87-yard
drive. The Chiefs scored with just 2:20 to play, halting a Bengals streak
of seven straight quarters without allowing a point. The Bengals had
also gone nine quarters without allowing a TD. The Bengals allowed
just 31 rushing yards (on 15 carries), their lowest rushing yield in 78
games, since holding Miami to 20-for-25 on Sept. 19, 2004. The Bengals
finished the year with a three-game winning streak and a 4-11-1 record.
Kansas City fell to 2-14.
