CITY OF NEW BUFFALO<br />

CODE OF ORDINANCES<br />

ARTICLE II. FIRE LANE DESIGNATION AND REGULATIONS.<br />

Section 6-21. Blocking <strong>of</strong> fire lanes prohibited.<br />

No person, firm, or corporation shall park, store, or cause to be located upon a fire lane any motor vehicle, machine,<br />

boat or other substantial object on or within the limits <strong>of</strong> a "fire lane," whether said fire lane is public or private, so<br />

as to block or partially block or impede full access to said fire lane by firefighting, ambulance, or similar emergency<br />

vehicles.<br />

Section 6-22. Definition <strong>of</strong> fire lanes. [Ord. 136, 7/16/2002]<br />

"Fire Lane" shall be defined as any public right-<strong>of</strong>-way or private street or roadway so designated by the <strong>City</strong><br />

Council. All fire lanes shall have a minimum width <strong>of</strong> eighteen (18) feet, and the exact location <strong>of</strong> the fire lane upon<br />

the designated public right-<strong>of</strong>-way shall be determined by the Fire Chief, as deemed necessary for the efficient and<br />

effective operation <strong>of</strong> fire apparatus.<br />

Section 6-23. Designation <strong>of</strong> fire lanes.<br />

The following are hereby designated as "fire lanes" in the <strong>City</strong>:<br />

A. The lane running from Water Street northerly on the east side <strong>of</strong> the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Buffalo</strong> Yacht Club.<br />

B. The lane running from Water Street northerly on the east side <strong>of</strong> the Snug Harbor Marina Store.<br />

C. The lane running from Water Street northerly at the Snug Harbor Boat Launch.<br />

D. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #1, Harbor Pointe.<br />

E. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #2, Lake Michigan Yacht Club.<br />

F. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #3, Dunewood.<br />

G. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #4, Harbor Landing.<br />

H. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #5, Moorings-South Cove.<br />

I. The lanes designated on Fire Lane Map #6, Warwick Shores.<br />

The <strong>of</strong>ficial Fire Lane Map shall be on file in the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> Clerk and be open for public inspection during<br />

normal business hours.<br />

Section 6-24. Definition <strong>of</strong> tow-away zone.<br />

"Tow-away Zone" means a zone where parking, stopping, or standing is not permitted as indicated by proper signs,<br />

and where vehicles parked in violation <strong>of</strong> the signs are towed away to keep the roadway clear for traffic movement.<br />

Section 6-25. Designation <strong>of</strong> tow-away zones.<br />

All fire lanes so designated by this Chapter are hereby designated as tow-away zones. In addition to the above<br />

provided penalties, the <strong>City</strong> may tow or caused to be towed any motor vehicle, machine, boat, or other substantial<br />

object blocking or partially blocking or impeding full access to any designated fire lane. The owner <strong>of</strong> any such<br />

motor vehicle, etc., shall be responsible for any and all towing related costs.<br />
