Profile:
Initiated in 2005, Friends-International’s Siem Reap project, Kaliyan Mith (meaning
‘good friends’ in Khmer), provides a comprehensive range of services for vulnerable
children, youth and their families.
Project activities include providing outreach services to children and youth living on the
streets; supporting young people detained in the Siem Reap Prison; the provision of
temporary accommodation through the Transitional Home; providing a safe space for
young people through the Drop In Centre; providing education and training; developing
a community-wide child protection network through the ChildSafe initiative; supporting
the children families through Home Based Production training with mothers to ensure
the education of their children, developing a community wide child protection network
through the ChildSafe initiative, and in 2009, initiating a new drugs project.
Objectives :
• Protecting street children and youth from all forms of abuse within the
scope of the International Convention of the Rights of the Child;
• Reintegrating street children and youth so they become actively involved
in the develop-ment of their society;
• Preventing street children and youth from engaging in risky behaviour
and/ or dangerous situations that compromise their futures;
• Improving the way organisations work by promoting innovative and
effective approaches with the active participation of the children and youth;
