Profile:
Friends-International (FI) first started working with street children in Phnom Penh,
Cambodia in 1994. The initial project was called “Friends” or “Mith Samlanh” in
Cambodian. In 1999 Mith Samlanh was localized as a Cambodia Non Government
Organization and Friends-International continues to provide the organization with ongoing
technical support.
FFriends-International is a social enterprise that works with and for marginalized urban
children and youth and their families to build their futures by:
-protecting urban children and youth from all forms of abuse within the scope of the
Interna-tional Convention of the Rights of the Child;
-reintegrating marginalized urban children and youth into their family, society, occupation
and culture so they become actively involved in the development of their society;
-preventing marginalized urban children and youth from engaging in risky behavior and/
or dangerous situations that compromise their futures;
-improving the way organizations work by promoting innovative and effective approaches
with the active participation of the children and youth;
-influencing all tiers of society to provide supportive environments and adopt positive
behavior changes.
The Cambodian Street Children Network (CSCN) was officially co-founded by Friends-
International (FI) and Mith Samlanh (MS) in April 2007, and Friends-International has
been coordinating the CSCN Profiles in 2007 and 2008, providing technical assistance
and training to prepare the survey with the CSCN members and producing the Profile.
