what is the difference between a solicitor and a barrister?<br />
These and many other questions will be answered<br />
during the course.<br />
Law is a 2 year course that aims to develop a knowledge and understanding of the concepts<br />
and methodology within our legal system. It offers a sound basis for further study.<br />
There will be 4 parts to the Law exam over the two year study period<br />

LA1 — Structures and Processes<br />
What is Law and how it has developed — Equity, European Institutions, Civil and<br />
Criminal Legal Systems, Law and Morality<br />
90 minute examination (2 essays from a choice of 6) [AS—50%, A2—25%] - To be sat<br />
in January<br />
LA2 — Reasoning and Personnel<br />
How Law works — Precedent, Legislation, Reform, the Judiciary, the Legal Profession<br />
90 minute examination (2 stimulus response from a choice of 4) [AS—50%, A2—25%]<br />

LA3 — Understanding Substantive Law<br />
Elements of Substantive Criminal Law, Murder, Manslaughter, Offences against the<br />
Person, general defenses, Police powers, Remedies for Breach of Police Powers<br />
90 minute examination (2 problem questions from a choice of 4) [A2—20%] - To be<br />
sat in June<br />
LA4 — Understanding Law in Context<br />
Principles of Criminal Law, mens rea, actus reus, strict liability, the prosecution and<br />
trial procedure, sentencing<br />
150 minute examination (2 essays from a choice of 4 and 1 stimulus response from a<br />
choice of 2) [A2—30%] - To be sat in June<br />
