VHP to launch agitation against Muslim quota (26)
RANCHI: VHP executive president Praveen Togadia arrived here on Saturday on a daylong trip to the
statee to create public awareness against alleged anti-Hindu policies of the Union government. After
attending a meet in Ranchi, he went to Jamshedpur and Bokaro to address public meetings and
strengthen the organization. This forms part of his first round of visit to different states to build public
opinion against move of the Union government to allocate 4.5% reservation in employment to the
members of Muslim community out of the 27% quota meant for the OBCs. He said that the UPA
government is violating constitutional spirit by announcing quota for Muslims. "It could later form the basis
of extending religion based reservation which is prohibited by the Constitution and secular nature of the
country," he said. Chairing a meet of the VHP, Bajrang Dal and RSS activists at Ranchi, Togadia asked
them to build consensus among the Hindus, irrespective of caste to protest move of the union
government. "Financial and social condition of the OBCs has not improved to a level that their share of
reservation is reduced arbitrarily," he said. In Jamshedpur Togadia described Samajwadi Party's
thumping victory in the recently concluded assembly polls as return of Mughal rule in Uttar Pradesh. "A
majority of the voters who voted for the SP will soon realize their mistake," said Togadia. About the
reservation for Muslims Togadia said, "We read conspiracy (behind the move to provide reservation to
Muslims). Reservation on communal basis would only divide the country. He said if Ranganath Mishra
commission recommendations are implemented in its present form it would only alienate the OBC youths
and would further create rift among the religious communities of India. (Times of India 10/3/12)
Secularism faces challenge under UDF: Rajagopal (26)
KOCHI, March 14, 2012: Senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal alleged on Tuesday that the United Democratic
Front (UDF) was indulging in activities that threatened secular credentials of democracy. Addressing a
press conference here, he said 90 per cent of top appointments done during the UDF rule had gone to
the members of a particular community. The same was the case with the heads of District Development
Councils, he said. Serious instances of intentional destruction of communal harmony had happened
during the past nine months. A famous temple in Kasaragod and an Ayyappa temple in Perumbavoor
were desecrated, but the government was more interested in suppressing the news instead of bringing
the culprits to book. The government was depending on non-secular parties and that accounted for its
partisan nature, he said. Mr. Rajagopal described the resignation of the Neyyattinkara MLA as an assault
on democracy. The role of the UDF in the episode was expected to be unveiled. It was notable that the
UPA government at the Centre had earlier resorted to undemocratic means to get more MPs to its side. It
was clear that the outcome of the Piravom byelection would not affect the stability of the State
government. Hence it was an opportunity for people to react to the government's course of action. Longterm
issues rather than day-to-day incidents should be the guiding force for casting votes. He hoped that
the BJP would improve its strength at the Piravom byelection. (The Hindu 14/3/12)
'General perception of public is that Narendra Modi is communal' (26)
Bangalore: Minister of state in PMO's office V Narayanasamy on Friday said a decision on replacing
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi would be taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson
Sonia Gandhi and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. "Trivedi's resignation is an internal matter of Trinamool
Congress (TMC).If we get any intimation from TMC, the decision will be taken by the Prime Minister, the
UPA chairperson and TMC chief", he said, responding to a query on the sidelines of a function here. On
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi being featured on the cover of Time March 26 issue and carrying
an article praising him for taking steps to develop the state he has been ruling over a decade, but
wonders if he can become Prime Minister, he quipped "I do not wish to make comments on any
