stage the play citing possible law and order problems. So, we have also decided not to stage it," said
Pabitra Pran Sarmah, the director of the play. Sarmah added that banning of the play here is
disheartening as the play has already been enacted several times in Nagaon. "People loved and
appreciated it," he added. Earlier, addressing the media on Friday, VHP's NE general secretary said they
would bar staging of such plays and had already lodged a complaint with the authorities concerned. "We
have got a copy of the play's script. We have seen that the epic characters of The Mahabharata have
been distorted in the play. They have used languages in the script which are not befitting to a great epic.
It is against religious sentiments and can create disturbance," said Abhijeet Deka, general secretary of
VHP, NE. An official said the matter of enacting the play was discussed with Dispur, too, which asked the
department to cancel the show. "First, we were asked to change the title and we did it too. It was
renamed as 'Bholanathor Sopun'. Later, the department asked to cancel it," said the director in
disappointment. "Mahabharataor Bhool" was written by Tarun Saikia in the Eighties to show that the
Kurikshetra War was a result of conflict of personal interests. Besides questioning the one-sided
perception of The Mahabharata, the drama is also a satire on modern-day life. (Times of India 31/3/12)
MM Joshi holds talks with RSS chief (26)
NAGPUR: Veteran BJP leader and former HRD minister Murli Manohar Joshi on Friday had a lengthy
deliberation with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at their Mahal headquarters here. Joshi spent more than
three hours with the RSS top brass and left the city in the evening. Significantly, Joshi, who heads Lok
Sabha's public accounts committee that probed the 2G spectrum scam was also at the center of an
unseemly row. He was accused by Anshuman Mishra, an aspirant for the Rajya Sabha ticket from
Jharkhand, of hobnobbing with telecom biggies who were accused in the 2G scam. The visit coming just
days after that episode could have seen some explaining by the BJP leader. Though a regular visitor to
the RSS headquarters, Joshi was here for the first time after BJP's dismal performance in Uttar Pradesh
state elections. Though the BJP did slightly better than the Congress in the UP election it was a poor third
after the SP and the BSP. Many in the party are unhappy that the BJP which once ruled the state had
now lost favour with the people in the most populous and crucial state. Lack of unity among senior party
leaders from the state was seen as a major factor for the BJP's poor show this time. Joshi avoided
speaking to media person during the visit fearing that it could trigger a fresh controversy. "I was here to
extend a personal invitation to the RSS chief for the wedding ceremony of my daughter," he told reporters
before leaving the city. (Times of India 1/4/12)
R. Somasundaram also took part. Resolutions thanking the State Government and police department for
Hindutva agenda behind subsidy to visit religious places: Ajay Singh (26)
Bhopal: Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Ajay Singh here today said that it appears
that there is an 'Hindutva agenda' behind the decision of the BJP government to give subsidy to people in
the state to visit certain religious places in foreign countries. "It appears that there must be an Hindutva
