Bid by Hindutva outfits to lift BJP’s sagging image: Nanaiah (26)
BANGALORE: Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party government of protecting the perpetrators of violence
in the Mangalore moral policing incident, Janata Dal (Secular) floor leader in the Legislative Council M.C.
Nanaiah on Monday said the obstruction of a discussion on the issue by BJP members bared the
intentions of the party. Addressing presspersons, Mr. Nanaiah alleged that the BJP government was
trying to create disharmony in society. “The attack is an attempt by the Hindutva outfits to strengthen
BJP’s base, which is losing its hold in the coastal belt,” he alleged. The government was doing its best to
bury the issue without allowing a debate in the Council. “Obstructing a debate is a well thought out,
orchestrated attempt by the ruling party,” he remarked. It was not possible for the government to conduct
an impartial inquiry in to the issue as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which was remotecontrolling
the government would not allow the government to do so, he alleged. Noting the Saturday’s
attack was the result of lenient stand taken by the Government on those involved in pub attack of
Mangalore on January 24, 2009, he said: “Three persons involved in Amnesia pub attack are also
reportedly involved in the attack. They have almost raped the women. Is this the way to protect the
culture?” The Hinudtva fronts have posed a challenge now, by warning of repeating such incidents,
whether the BJP government was prepared to accept the challenge, he sought to know. (The Hindu
VHP plea to push back illegal Bangladeshis from Assam (26)
KOKRAJHAR: VHP International working president Pravin Togadia on Saturday visited some relief camps
in Kokrajhar, housing victims of the recent Bodo-Mulsim clash, and took stock of the situation. Expressing
concern at the displacement of natives from their own land, he appealed to people of Assam to remain
united against illegal Muslim immigrants from Bangladesh and demanded immediate deportation of
Bangladeshis from India. He asked the state government not to resettle any Muslim without preparing the
NRC based on the 1951 census. Togadiya interacted with the inmates of relief camps at Sukhanjhora,
Titaguri and Swrang ME schools along with leaders of BJP. Talking to media after touring the trouble-torn
region in lower Assam, he said, "It is not the Bodos but the Muslim immigrants who are trying to carry out
ethnic cleansing to make Assam a Muslim country." Referring to Kashmir where there is not a single
Hindu left, he said it is the turn of the Bodos today in Assam. He added that the Assamese and people of
other Hindu communities would suffer the dame fate if they do not unite and cooperate with Bodos to fight
against the invasion. He claimed that more than one crore Bangladeshi Muslims have illegally settled in
Assam and neither the Centre nor the state government have taken steps to push them back. He said
Muslim militants, along with immigrants, have tried ethnic cleansing in the region and people of all
communities are bearing the brunt. (Times of India 4/8/12)
‘Mangalore attacks: Part of an RSS strategy to build a Hindu Rashtra’ (26)
Dakshina Kannada (DK) has been seeing violent attacks by Hindutva groups for many years now. It is
evident that these attacks are not random but a concerted campaign of communal policing to make
women and minorities feel unsafe not only in Dakshina Kannada, but in the rest of the state as well. This
is all part of an ideological programme engineered by the RSS, which has deep roots in DK and is very
powerful in the entire region, having spawned a number of Hindutva groups like Sri Ram Sene and Hindu
Jagarana Vedike that have been involved in these attacks. Groups like Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran
Vedike, Sri Ram Sene and others — all of them controlled or encouraged by RSS — also share some
common membership. Many Muslim cattle traders have been attacked by the same groups that carried
out the pub attacks in Mangalore. Attacks on women and minorities are part of the RSS strategy to build a
Hindu Rashtra, where Muslims and Christians would be second class citizens.Women play an important
