Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal on Friday held a protest in the national Capital against
attacks on Hindus in Jammu & Kashmir. They also burnt effigy of Governor NN Vohra. VHP and Bajrang
Dal said that the protest was held against recent attacks on Hindus in Rajauri, booking them in false
cases. They also raised questions on the manner in which the time duration of the Amarnath Yatra has
been cut down. VHP alleged that the J&K Governor and its State Chief Minister are taking decisions on
the pressure of anti national elements. They further alleged that terror groups are terrorising Hindus living
in the border districts of the state. A Press notification said that member central advisory board of VHP BL
Sharma Prem while addressing the protesters asked whether Hindus have no right to practice their
religion in the state. “Why the religious precession was attacked in Rajauri by the anti national elements in
front of the administration?,” he said. He added that instead of detaining attackers police arrested hindus.
Prem demanded immediate release of those detained in false cases, withdrawal of false FIRs lodged and
restoration of Amarnath yarta duration atleast for two months. VHP state Media chief Vinod Bansal said
that the J & K state machinery kept mum on any action against anti nationals. He said, “Today we burn
effigy of the state Governor to protest against his repeated interference in Hindus religious affairs by
curtailing Amaranath Yatra duration and not protecting life and property of Hindus living in border areas.”
Bansal warned that if the governor does not turn up, they may extend this protest to the whole country.
VHP threatens agitation over Amarnath yatra duration (26)
JAMMU: The VHP today threatened to launch a countrywide agitation to protest against the curtailment of
Amarnath yatra duration from 60 days to 39 days and demanded the resignation of governor NN Vohra
as chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). The outfit also demanded the reconstitution of the
shrine board. "We demand resignation of Vohra as chairman of SASB for curtailment of the yatra to 39
days this year under the pressure of separatists. The board should be reconstituted," VHP state chief
Ramakant Dubey told reporters here. The shrine board has announced June 25 as the new date for
starting the yatra. The VHP demands for the reconstitution of SASB, which should comprise only those
members having full faith in Hindu religion, he said. Dubey said the yatra shall commence from
auspicious Jyeshth Purnima, which is falling on June 4, a practice which has been going on for the last
several years. He said the VHP will organise protest demonstrations at all district headquarters across the
country from April 16 to press their demand for the early commencement of yatra. In case an immediate
decision is not taken in this regard, the VHP will start the yatra on its own from June 4, he said. (Times of
Attack on beef fest against ‘food fascism’ (26)
Hyderabad, April 16: A student was stabbed and injured last night as violence flared at Osmania
University over a “beef festival” organised by Dalit students to assert their right to eat their traditional food
on the campus. The government, worried that the issue may snowball and re-ignite the Telangana
movement at its epicentre, has swamped the campus with paramilitary and police who caned the fighting
students and fired tear gas. Still, skirmishes continued this morning and classes were closed.
Satyanarayana, a member of BJP student wing ABVP which allegedly tried to disrupt the festival last
evening by throwing stones at the diners, was attacked and stabbed past midnight at his hostel. His
wounds are not grievous, hospital doctors said. Dalit student bodies — some of them pro-Telangana —
organised the festival with support from Left student groups in protest against the “food fascism” that
keeps beef out of campus canteens. Dalit students allege they are taunted by their upper caste peers for
eating beef at home. Ironically, a beef stall has been a regular feature — and a major attraction — at the
annual fest, Sukoon, of the nearby University of Hyderabad since 2006 and nobody objects to it. Last
evening, as beef biryani was being served at Osmania to 200-odd people — including students, teachers
and rights activists who had been invited — a group of about 50 students, allegedly from the ABVP,
