country, which I like, but it is complicated. Their message is one of hatred," Pahuja said. Her documentary
provides a peak into a training centre where the VHP disseminates its ideology and trains girls in selfdefense.
Pahuja said that it took her two years to get access the training centre and win the trust of the
VHP to shoot the film. "After interacting with members of the VHP at different levels, they finally trusted
me enough to let me into the training centre. But they wanted me to portray them in favourable light," she
said. The Canada-based filmmaker said that there was no pressure on her to make her film in VHP's
favour or not to portray them in poor light. "I did feel insecure every now and then when I was interacting
with VHP leaders," Pahuja admitted. Her film also provides an insight into the lives of women training for
the Miss India pageant and brings out the contrast in between them and the VHP trainees. "My original
idea was to see the changes in India post-liberalization and the role of women. I wanted to show it
through women who participate in the Miss India beauty pageant. But then I came across this strong
woman training with VHP and I decided to make the film showing the contrasting ideologies of these two
women," Pahuja said. (Times of India 29/11/12)
Country needs pro-Hindu Sansad: VHP (26)
The country needs to form a pro-Hindu Parliament which is strong enough to protect the rights of Hindus,
instead of a government which works against the interest of the community, Vishwa Hindu Parishad said.
"We want a Parliament which can protect the rights of Hindus and the next 2014 general elections will be
on this line," VHP leader Ashok Singhal said at press conference here. "Representation of Hindus should
be higher in Parliament, then only there will be a proper arrangement in the interest of Hindus," he said.
Singhal said Hindu monks and intellectuals of the community will discuss the issue in the Kumbh fair next
year to draw a strategy. "People are frequently asking that when Ram temple will be built in Ayodhya and
we have to give answer. The movement of Ram temple construction is not the movement of mere temple
construction, but it is closely associated with the dignity of Hindus," he said. He claimed that during the
last ten years, large number of Hindus were forced to adopt Islam or Christianity in the country and this
was a matter of concern. Praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Singhal said Modi successfully
protected the rights of Hindu and anti- Hindu elements could not develop during his rule. Singhal refrained
from commenting on the action on BJP MP Ram Jethmalani for his controversial remarks about lord
Rama. Jethmalani had said at a function, "Ram was a bad husband. I don't like him at all. Just because
some fisherman said something, he sent that poor woman [Sita] to exile." (Indian Express 30/11/12)
VHP activists attack Agnivesh (26)
BHOPAL: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists on Friday manhandled social activist Swami Agnivesh
here when he came to join the launch of the eradication of manual scavenging march from Bhopal to New
Delhi. The VHP attack was over Agnivesh's comment on the Amarnath 'shivling' earlier this year.
Agnivesh had said that Amarnath 'shivling' which is holy for Hindus was a natural occurrence caused by
the collection of ice drops throughout winter. Local VHP head B L Tiwari and supporters of saffron
organisation Sanskriti Bachao Manch attacked Swami Agnivesh and manhandled him at the Ravindra
Bhavan. The violent activists tried to tear apart Agnivesh's robe claiming that he did not deserve to wear
saffron attire. They even called him a traitor to the nation, sympathiser of Naxals and insurgents. The
VHP even alleged Agnivesh had deceived Anna Hazare during the crusade against corruption. Police
rescued Agnivesh from the spot while the VHP workers continued to raise slogans. In May this year,
Agnivesh faced the wrath of the saffron brigade and was slapped in the face during a meeting in
Ahmedabad for the same remark on Amarnath ice deity. (Times of India 1/12/12)
