Non bailable warrant issued against Samajwadi party MP in Babri mosque demolition case (26)<br />

LUCKNOW: In a major embarrassment for the Samajwadi Party (SP), the special CBI court in Lucknow<br />

hearing the Babri mosque demolition case has issued non bailable warrant (NBW) against mafia-turnedpolitician<br />

and SP MP from Kaiserganj, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, for his continues non presence in the<br />

court during the trial. Singh is not only accused in Babri mosque demolition case but has also been jailed<br />

in the past under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) for alleged links with<br />

underworld don Dawood Imbrahim. The court issued NBW against Singh along with former Shiv Sena<br />

MLA Pawan Pandey, who has also failed to present himself before the court during the trial. A law<br />

graduate from Faizabad's Saket University, Sharan was active in student politics and has today has over<br />

40 criminal cases against him in police record. The cases include murder, attempt to murder, extortion,<br />

rioting, firing at the police station, carrying illegal arm and, dacoity among others. He also manager of<br />

around 40 colleges imparting higher and professional education in various parts of Uttar Pradesh (UP).<br />

He won Lok Sabha elections four times -- in 1991 (Gonda), 1999 (Gonda) and 2004 (Balrampur) on the<br />

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) ticket and in 2009 (Kaisarganj) as SP candidate. He was active member of<br />

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and played an important role in Ram temple movement. During Ram<br />

temple movement, Singh was said to be close to veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani and VHP leader<br />

Ashok Singhal. On December 6, 1992, Singh was allegedly in Ayodhya and provoked the VHP Kar<br />

Sevaks to demolish the Babri mosque. He has also been accused of giving shelter to some Kar Sevaks<br />

during the movement and facilitating their journey to Ayodhya. Riding on the Ram wave, Sharan entered<br />

Parliament on a BJP in the 1991. Singh was made accused by CBI along with senior Shiv Sena,VHP and<br />

BJP leaders in Babri mosque demolition case. In July 2008, Singh defected to SP and supported the<br />

Congress led UPA government during trust vote on Indo-US nuclear deal. Since then he is in SP. (Times<br />

Mercifully, India is not Gujarat, say Muslim leaders (26)<br />

MUMBAI: Muslim leaders have attributed Narendra Modi's impressive victory to near-total polarization of<br />

Gujarati society. They say Hindutva's "poster boy" has strengthened his hold on Gujarat's Hindus in the<br />

last decade and a stronger Modi means greater marginalization of Muslims in the state. Some blame the<br />

Congress for not putting up a stronger fight. "We don't know what is Congress's strategy, but it seems to<br />

have neglected Gujarat. For fear of losing Hindu votes, it didn't mention the massacre of 2002 during the<br />

election campaign. On the contrary, Modi brazenly and successfully projected himself as a champion of<br />

Hindus," said Zafrul Islam Khan, president, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, an umbrella<br />

organization of Muslim outfits. Khan, however, maintained that Modi's victory in Gujarat doesn't mean he
