VHP invites Sikhs, Buddhists for Mahakumbh (26)
Chandigarh: Showing a liberal face, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Thursday extended invitation to
Sikhs and Buddhists to take part in the Mahakumbh to be held in Allahabad early next year. The
Mahakumbh, held after 12 years at Allahabad, will start on January 14, next year and will conclude on
February 28. Talking to mediapersons, Ashok Singhal, president of VHP said that they have already met
Avtar Singh Makkar, president of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) few days ago, in
which they accepted our invitation and asked us to send it formally. “Though SGPC, SAD and other
organisations of Sikh community have already accepted our invitation, we came here to invite them
formally and personally,” said Singhal. He added that VHP is not inviting only Sikh community to take part
in the Mahakumbh. “I also met Dalai Lama a few days ago and he accepted our invitation and assured us
that around 500 lamas will attend the Mahakumbh. Singhal did not rule out that Ram temple at Ayodhya
could be an issue in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Hardeep Singh, member of SGPC said
that instead of accepting the VHP invitation for Mahakumbh, Sikh bodies should have asked VHP in
which capacity they are inviting the Sikhs to take part and whether VHP considers Sikhs as part of Hindu
religion or a separate religion or community. "If VHP consider Sikhs as part of Hindu religion, then Sikhs
should not go there and attend that ceremony, however, if they consider Sikhs as different religion, then
Sikhs may accept the invitation”, said Singh. Congress leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder
Kaur Bhattal condemned the way VHP extended invitation for the Mahakumbh. Talking to The Pioneer,
she said, “We, strongly condemn the move of VHP in this regard. They are dividing the Sikh community
by inviting SAD or SGPC only. Akalis are not the only one, who represent Sikh community. There are a
number of political parties, NGOs and others who belong to sikh community but work in different
organisations. If they want to invite Sikh community, they should talk to everyone rather than asking Chief
Minister of Punjab." (Pioneer 15/11/12)
RSS, VHP to organise sant sammelan at Ayodhya on Nov 26 (25)
Lucknow: After long, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)
are jointly organising a sant sammelan in Ayodhya on Monday to remind them about the issue of
construction of Ram Mandir and update them on the steps being taken by both organisations in that
direction. VHP patron Ashok Singhal as well as head of Ram Janmbhoomi Nyas Mahant Nritya Gopal
Das will address the saints at Karsevakpuram, located around 1.5-km from the disputed site of Ram
Janmbhoomi. Organisers are expecting a gathering of more than 2,000 saints. November 26 has been
chosen for the sammelan as saints from across the country have assembled in Ayodhya these days for
the Parikrama which started on Wednesday. The saints will stay there till Kartik Purnima on November
28. “The sammelan in Ayodhya on Monday is being organised to make saints aware of the ongoing
programmes of VHP and remind them about the Ram Temple issue and appeal to them to remain united
for it,” said Triloki Nath Pandey, a VHP leader. Pandey said that VHP will be organising a grand
sammelan of saints during the Kumbh in Allahabad on February 7 where the issue of Ram Temple will be
discussed and an important strategy would be chalked out for reviving the issue. RSS district convener
Vikrama Prasad Pandey said that the saints in the past few years had got divided over different issues.
“The sammelan is to reunite the saints on this issue,” Pandey said. (Indian Express 24/11/12)
PANAJI: The people in the Vishwa Hindu parishad (VHP) are "not monstrous, but their teachings to
young girls are problematic", says Nisha Pahuja, maker of the documentary 'The world fefore her', based
