Four KFD activists arrested in connection with attack on Bajrang Dal leader (26)
Mysore, May 28, 2012: The Kodagu police have arrested four activists of the Karnataka Forum for Dignity
(KFD) in connection with the attack on Kodagu Bajrang Dal leader Ganesh (Nanda Kumar), near Madikeri
on May 23. They names of the arrested were given as Khaleel Pasha, Javed, Junaid, and Hamid. They
were remanded in judicial custody till June 2 after they were produced at the court on Saturday. Two
motorcycles and lethal weapons used by the accused were confiscated by the Madikeri police. The
accused, who were riding two motorcycles, had stopped Ganesh's car on the Madikeri-Somwarpet Road
on the night of May 23 and attacked him. Ganesh was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here
and is stated to be out of danger. Hindutva organisations planned to take out a march and stage a dharna
at the Deputy Commissioner's office in Madikeri on May 29 to protest against the attacks on Ganesh,
secretary of the Kodagu Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) unit, C.N. Somesh told presspersons in Madikeri
on Sunday. No one should ignore the feelings of the members of the Hindu communities, he said. The
procession would begin from the Sri Chowdeshwari temple in Mahadevpet in Madikeri after a puja at
10.30 a.m. on May 29. It would pass through the main streets and converge at the Deputy
Commissioner's office to stage a dharna, Mr. Somesh said. Representation would be submitted to the
Deputy Commissioner to deal sternly with the accused. Those who tried to meddle with the Hindu
sentiments would have to face serious consequences, he said. The Kodagu district administration and the
police must take the issue seriously, he said. Mr. Somesh said a police officer in Kodagu had connived
with anti-Hindu elements which attempted to murder Ganesh. A complaint would be lodged against the
officer with the Home Minister and inquiry sought to ascertain the role of the officer. Bajrang Dal local
leaders Roy Thammaiah and P. Ramesh, VHP leaders M.B. Devaiah and I.M. Appaiah were present.(The
RSS prepares BJP for rise of 2nd generation (26)
New Delhi: With the RSS signalling the marginalisation of 85-year-old L.K. Advani, the saffron brigade is
set to witness the rise of three leaders — Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, Leader of the Opposition
in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari. Sources disclosed that while Mr Gadkari,
who got a second term cleared by the RSS, will be controlling the organisation, the party will tacitly
project both Mr Modi and Mr Jaitley as the party’s future leaders, along the lines of the Atal-Advani pair.
While the RSS is miffed with Mr Advani for criticising Mr Gadkari in his blog, it has already made it clear
that the party will now be run by second-generation leaders. If Mr Modi is considered one of the BJP’s
prime ministerial candidates, Mr Jaitley is the BJP’s main trouble-shooter and is also considered as a PM
candidate from the party. Both Mr Modi and Mr Jaitley share a good rapport; Mr Jaitley is a Rajya Sabha
MP from Gujarat. On many occasions, Mr Jaitley has bailed the party out of crises, the most recent being
Karnataka and Rajasthan. Mr Jaitley, sources said, not only pacified former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara
Raje, who threatened to quit the party recently, but his intervention in Karnataka, where former CM B.S.
Yeddyurappa had staged a revolt against the party, saved the ruling BJP from a split. Speculation has
been rife that after the Gujarat Assembly polls, Mr Modi will be brought into the national political scenario.
A recent assessment by the RSS has shown that its cadre is in favour of Mr Modi becoming the BJP’s PM
