KS Sudarshan, former RSS chief, passes away (26)<br />
RAIPUR: Former RSS Sarsanghchalak, KS Sudarshan (81), died here this morning at about 6.30am after<br />
suffering a heart attack. His cremation will take place at Nagpur, the RSS headquarters, on Sunday<br />
evening at 3pm. Sudarshan, who led the right-wing Hindu organization from 2000-2009, had arrived in the<br />
city on Thursday from Jabalpur and was staying at the local RSS office, Jagriti Mandal, Pandri. According<br />
local RSS workers, the former sarsanghchalak had come here to release the book of Chattisgarh Rajya<br />
Sabha MP, Gopal Vyas. The book release function was held on Friday evening. A RSS worker who was<br />
present at Jagriti Bhawan this morning said Sudharshan apparently suffered a "massive heart attack" and<br />
died within few minutes. "He complained about chest pain at about 6am and we immediately called a<br />
cardiologist. However, the doctor, who came at about 6.30am, pronounced him dead", he said.<br />
Sudarshan was reportedly a heart patient and had undergone a bypass a decade ago. The RSS chief<br />
was slated to leave for Nagpur on Sunday morning. RSS sources said that his body would be taken to<br />
Nagpur on Saturday afternoon at about 2pm and will be kept at the party's headquarters for people to pay<br />
their last respects. Though Sudarshan had been staying with his family in Mysore for quite some time, he<br />
was born in this very city on June 18, 1931 in a Sanketi Brahmin family. He did his Bachelor of<br />
Engineering in Telecommunications (honours) from Sagar University. He joined RRS Shakha at a young<br />
age of nine years and became a prachark in 1954. He went on to become the prant pracharak of Madhya<br />
Bharat in 1964. He also the headed the RSS think tank, Boudhik Cell, and in 1990 he became the joint<br />
general secretary of the organisation and later he became the Sarsanghchalak. (Times of India 15/9/12)<br />

Nagpur: Former RSS chief Kuppalli Sitaramayya Sudarshan died in Raipur on Saturday morning following<br />
a heart attack. He was 81. Sudarshan was in Raipur for a book release function. His body was brought to<br />
the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, where the funeral is set to be held on Sunday. Born on June 18, 1931,<br />
Sudarshan, whose family hailed from Kuppalli in Karnataka, joined the RSS as a bal swayamsevak when<br />
he was just nine years old. With a Bachelor of Engineering in telecommunications (honours) from Sagar<br />
University, he became a full-time RSS pracharak in 1954 in Raigarh district. He quickly rose through the<br />
ranks, becoming prant pracharak of Madhya Pradesh in 1964, before he was sent to the Northeast in<br />
1977. In 1979, he took over as the Akhil Bharatiya Boudhik Pramukh, chief of the RSS think-tank. In<br />
1990, he was appointed sah sarakaryavah (joint general secretary) of the organisation. A decade later,<br />
Sudarshan took over from an ailing Rajendra Singh alias Rajju Bhaiyya as RSS chief in 2000, when the<br />
BJP-led NDA government was in power. A votary of swadeshi, Sudarshan made clear his differences with<br />
the NDA government’s economic policies. Known for his hardline views, his followers remember him for<br />
his commitment to Hinduism. Sudarshan was also vocal about the internal affairs of the Sangh Parivar,<br />
which earned him many critics within the RSS. In an interview with The <strong>Indian</strong> Express Editor-in-Chief<br />
Shekhar Gupta on NDTV 24X7’s Walk the Talk programme in 2005, Sudarshan kicked up a controversy<br />
when he said that former prime minister A B Vajpayee and L K Advani should make way for the young<br />
