Eko Hotel opens new exhibition space
Lagos saw the unveiling of an exhibition and art space at Eko Hotel and Suites,
Victoria Island, Lagos.With this, the hotel already renowned for excellent programming
at its available halls has joined the league of few players using their facilities to showcase
the best of Nigeria’s contemporary art.All rooms have artworks including the convention
centre.Though Eko Hotel has hosted exhibitions in the past, it is trying to do something
different this time around.
A spokesperson said: “I hope that a space like this will inspire many, bring people together
and show the world what we are capable of. I want the space to be open to people from all
walks of life.”
New Crowne Plaza property to open in Muscat
Hospitality brand InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed an agreement
with the Oman Tourism Development Company SAOC for a new hotel named as Crowne
Plaza Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat.To be the second Crowne
Plaza hotel in the capital and the fourth Crowne Plaza hotel in Oman, the new property
will be a 296-room hotel. Being IHG’s eighth property in the Sultanate of Oman, the new
hotel is part of Omran’s Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) development,
which is due for completion in 2016.
The new-build property will feature extensive meeting and event facilities with a separate
function centre, which will include a modern and stylish ballroom with terrace, a
boardroom and three large meeting rooms.
Nashik Municipal Corporation to set up multipurpose
expo centre
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to set up a multi-purpose exhibition
centre in the city, in order to have a permanent place to various exhibitions.Municipal
commissioner, Sanjay Khandare, during a meeting with members of Nashik Industries and
Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA) and Ambad Industries & Manufactures’ Association
(AIMA) in October last year, had assured them an exhibition centre in the city.
AIMA president Suresh Mali said, “The new municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare
has assured us of land for the permanent exhibition centre in Nashik. A provision for
an exhibition centre in the budget for the fiscal 2013-14 has been made. The exhibition
centre will include all infrastructural facilities required for exhibitions, including
electricity, drinking water, toilets, parking for vehicles.”
Dundurn International Exhibition Centre
The Dundurn International Exhibition Centre was officially unveiled recently. The
first phase of the project will construct a 300,000-sq.-ft. building to house an estimated
350 exhibition shops and warehouses. Phase two will see two more buildings, measuring
300,000-sq.-ft and 400,000-sq.-ft and may include banks and law firms.The first 350
shops will go up for sale for small to medium-sized companies in China and other Asian
countries.
Brightenview Development’s President Joe Zhou said: “The ambitious project will break
ground in late fall rather than the summer and will open 18 to 24 months later. The
project received the blessing from local and national representatives including reeve for
the Rural Municipality of Dundurn Fred Wilson.Saskatchewan Labour Minister Don
Morgan, also pledged his government’s support.”
PCNTDA to work on convention centre in 2014
The Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority PCNTDA expects to
start construction work on the new Pune international exhibition and convention centre
at Moshi in July 2014.The initial estimate for phase I, which will come up on 121 acres, is
in the range of Rs 400 crore. One convention centre will be spread over 4.4 lakh sqft and
two exhibition centres measuring 1.32 lakh sqft each.
YogeshMhase, CEO, PCNTDA said: “Of the 240 acres, 2.2 hectares belongs to the
government and some of it to Haveli Agricultural Produce Market Committee. Also, the
development control rules will have to be changed for the convention centre.”
