The initial placement decision will be made by the principal or his/her designee. A review of this placement will be conducted after six weeks to determine final placement. Grades for courses applied to high school graduation, which are awarded by a home study program or by a non-accredited school, shall be recorded as pass/fail. For grades 9-12, the following criteria are used to place students in the appropriate courses and award credit: • In a course that has an End of Course Test (EOCT), students must take and pass the test with a grade of 70 or higher. These courses include: Math I, Math II, Ninth Literature/Composition, American Literature/Composition, Physical Science, Biology, United States History, and Economics. • Department final exams will be used in all other areas to award credit and determine placements. Students must score 70 or higher on these exams. Warrior Period Warrior Period is a 25-minute block in the middle of the school day. Each student is assigned to a group of approximately 15 students and a teacher. The teacher serves as the student’s advisor and provides extra support to encourage the student to achieve his or her academic goals. Warrior Period provides time for a variety of activities at OCHS. Some of these include: • Tutoring and Remediation • Study Groups • Club Meetings • Graduation Test Preparation • SAT Preparation • EOCT Preparation • Pep Rallies • Class Meetings 12

Students take an End-of-Course Test at the completion of this course. 9 This is a rigorous, accelerated, and enriched literature 8 th Grade 8 th Grade and composition course designed to challenge students’ Teacher Language Arts creative and critical response to text. The course Recommendation Teacher supports language development through technical writing, media literacy, and informal presentations. It is based on world literature selection, stressing genre and vocabulary, and an aesthetic response to poetry. Students study grammar, mechanics, and usage through literature and the writing process. The class engages in the shared inquiry method of discovery through the Junior Great Books program. Students take an End-of- Course Test at the completion of this course. 10 World literature, vocabulary, and persuasive writing are central to this course, which includes the study of grammar, mechanics, and usage in the context of writing assignments. A short paper gives attention to controlling idea, supporting evidence, organization, style, and MLA format. 10 This accelerated and enriched course is designed to continue to challenge students’ creative and critical response to text.
