regionally, and nationally such as the American Red<br />
Cross, American Heart Association, Health Occupations<br />
Students of America (HOSA), and the National<br />
Consortium on Health Science and Technology<br />
Education (NCHSTE).<br />
10-<strong>12</strong> The course is designed to offer students the opportunity<br />
to become effective and efficient multi-skilled healthcare<br />
providers as they develop a working knowledge of each<br />
of the major departments of the average acute care<br />
setting/hospital, including but not limited to:<br />
Orthopedics, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, MedSurg,<br />
Gastroenterology, Urology, and Customer Care Services.<br />
Students focusing on a career path in medicine (Pre-<br />
Med) or on a career in one of the ancillary departments<br />
noted above will apply classroom/lab knowledge and<br />
skills in the clinical setting as they participate in direct<br />
client care.<br />
11-<strong>12</strong> This course provides students with further development<br />
of the fundamentals of medical terminology as it relates<br />
to health informatics. Included in this course is a basic<br />
study of the disease process with emphasis on diagnosis<br />
and treatment in which students are able to enrich the<br />
medical terminology study in an applied manner. The<br />
knowledge and skills gained this course will provide<br />
students entering many aspects of healthcare with a<br />
deeper understanding of the application of the language<br />
of health and medicine. The course concludes with<br />
students demonstrating their abilities to accurately locate<br />
and interpret information on clients’ health record, as<br />
well as interpreting and transcribing medical<br />
orders/reports.<br />
