45.07110 World Geography 9-<strong>12</strong> This ½ unit course examines major trends in modern<br />

global geography and analyzes the political, social,<br />

economic, and cultural characteristics of modern<br />

societies. Students will evaluate current issues in global<br />

policy and diversity awareness. This course integrates<br />

and reinforces map-reading skills, critical thinking<br />

skills, and social science research skills. It is<br />

recommended that students sign up for this course with<br />

related to these issues and how decisions are made<br />

10-<strong>12</strong> Individual and the Law analyzes the foundations and<br />

functions of the American legal system. This course<br />

examines types of laws, the individual’s relationship to<br />

the law and major court decisions, and integrates and<br />

reinforces social studies skills.<br />

45.03100 Sociology 11-<strong>12</strong> Sociology uses a macro-approach perspective to<br />

investigate human behavior, the individual in<br />

relationship to groups, social stratification, social<br />

movements and collective human actions. One will<br />

explore political science theories, racial and ethnic<br />

developmental theories, and global population growth<br />

and control strategies. It explores the impact of social<br />

institutions such as family, education, religion,<br />

economics, government, and sports have on the<br />

individual. This course also helps to develop research<br />

methods, critical thinking skills, and enhances one’s<br />

understanding of the social sciences.<br />
