Two new holes, speaking and deal openings,
have been cut in the side window of
the Wes-Mer Drive-in boxoffice at Mercedes.
This places the airer cashier within
arm's length of drivers entering the theatre
and enables one person to handle operation
of the boxoffice on week nights. Gate boys
still
are used on weekends, with transactions
going on at two windows of the boxoffice
one through the side window to customers
Two SA Pussycat Staffers
To Face Obscenity Charge
SAN ANTONIO—Oscar R. Martin,
manager, and employee F. D. Thompson
of the Pussycat Theatre will be tried June
8 before County Court-at-Law Judge H. F.
Garcia on charges of possessing and exhibiting
obscene movies. The charges were
filed Wednesday (5) afternoon.
The action marks the latest attack by
the San Antonio police department vice
squad and district attorney Ted Butler's
staff against local theatres accused of showing
obscene films.
Friday, April 30, vice squad detective
investigator Thomas B. Foose viewed two
unnamed motion pictures at the Pussycat
Theatre.
It was claimed by Foose that he paid a
$4 membership-admittance fee to view the
films. After Foose viewed the films, police
arrested Martin, who was identified as the
manager of the Pussycat, and Thompson,
who was identified as an employee.
A hearing was held by night magistrate
James Lewis, who ruled the films were
lewd and obscene. He ordered five films
and two projectors of the theatre seized as
evidence.
Martin and Thompson were freed on
personal recognizance bonds of $500 each
set by Judge Lewis.
