operating out of Sao Paulo, Brazil, offers transportation<br />

of bulk liquid chemicals on the Brazilian coast and within<br />

the Mercosul area. The company currently operates four<br />

chemical tankers and one 51,000 DWT product tanker.<br />

Together, <strong>Odfjell</strong> and Flumar provide customers with superior<br />

service capabilities in the Mercosul area. Furthermore,<br />

the extensive network of tank terminals in Brazil and<br />

Argentina, owned by related parties, adds value and benefits<br />

to its customers’ logistics requirements.<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> y Vapores<br />

The 50/50 joint venture <strong>Odfjell</strong> y Vapores operates out<br />

of Santiago, Chile, with one chemical tanker of 16,000<br />

DWT. The vessel is primarily engaged in transportation of<br />

sulphuric acid along the Peruvian/Chilean coast.<br />

ODFJELL SHIP MANAGEMENT<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> Ship Management is fully integrated with fleet<br />

management, crewing, risk management and technology<br />

support. As ships account for a substantial part of our<br />

total fixed assets, it is imperative that the fleet is managed<br />

and operated efficiently, assets are protected and values<br />

maintained. <strong>Odfjell</strong> Ship Management manages all owned<br />

and bare-boat chartered vessels. As of the end of <strong>2012</strong>, the<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> managed fleet consisted of 47 vessels, 45 chemical<br />

tankers and two LPG/Ethylene carriers.<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> Ship Management employs personnel at offices<br />

in Bergen, Singapore, Manila, Subic Bay, Sao Paulo and<br />

Houston, which provide direct support to ships in regional<br />

trades and ships in the deep-sea fleet, as well as professional<br />

crew management.<br />

In <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Odfjell</strong> Ship Management continued the amended<br />

efforts to develop a safety culture capable of taking Health,<br />

Safety, Security and Environment performance (HS<strong>SE</strong>) to a<br />

sustainable higher level. For that purpose a Safety Culture<br />

Programme as well as HS<strong>SE</strong> programmes are launched<br />

and achieved performance levels are regularly reviewed.<br />

The implemented ship maintenance programme secures<br />

safe and efficient operation, a long useful working life and<br />

high second-hand values of the vessel. The maintenance<br />

strategy is implemented through our computerised Planned<br />

Maintenance System supported by an in-house specialist<br />

team. A well structured technical project management team<br />

secures compliance with relevant rules and regulations as<br />

well as various ship performance improvements.<br />

The safe operation of chemical tankers and LPG/Ethylene<br />

carriers depends on highly qualified officers and crew.<br />

Our ships are mainly registered in Norway (NIS) and<br />

Singapore, and are primarily manned by Norwegian and<br />

Filipino mariners with extensive experience. The Flumar<br />

fleet, which is primarily traded on the Brazilian coast, is<br />

manned by Brazilian mariners.<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> devotes considerable attention to recruiting qualified<br />

officers and crew and at any given time, more than<br />

200 Norwegian, British or Filipino mariners are normally<br />

employed as trainees or cadets.<br />

<strong>Odfjell</strong> Ship Management actively applies Risk Management<br />

processes to maintain and improve performance. Every<br />

year <strong>Odfjell</strong> carries out regular internal audits of ships<br />

and offices. Customers make inspections through the<br />

Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI) and the Oil Companies<br />

International Marine Forum (OCIMF). Periodical surveys are<br />

carried out by various classification societies, flag states<br />

and port states. From 2013 all Ship Management branch<br />

offices will be included in our Document of Compliance<br />

audits and DNV performs ISM Code inspections of our<br />

ships’ quality systems. When ships or offices report critical<br />

situations, accidents, non-conformances or possible<br />

improvements through our Safety and Improvement<br />
