A second design was produced. This approach used differential bonding to<br />
create differences in compression resistance. Discrete bands <strong>of</strong> needles<br />
were removed prior to manufacture to create longitudinal areas <strong>of</strong> bonded<br />
fibre and non‐bonded fibre. These can be clearly seen in Figure 18.<br />
Figure 19 shows a cross‐section <strong>of</strong> the structure which demonstrates the<br />
‘node’ architecture. It is envisaged that the differential bonding creates<br />
areas with differing compression resistance to aid composite manufacture.<br />
